VQ35 timming chain

Default VQ35 timming chain

hi im new to the nissan community, i got a good deal on an altima since it needed some work.

got into the timming chain, im ready to assemble everything. got the shop manual been following it religiously but something slipped.. im trying to reset everything to TDC on #1. i got the marks alligned on the cams but how do i make sure im on the compression stroke?

car is a 03 altima auto with a vq35.. thanks for your help

thank you, i got it all lined up but.... how do i make sure im not on the exhaust stroke? i get the marks but just want to make sure i dont time it on the wrong TDC

It's the position of the cams that determine whether you're on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke. Therefore just put the #1 piston to TDC, and line up the marks according to the manual.

haha wow i think i need to rest... i feel like an idiot. but yea cams will tell me.. anyways thanks for your help

Cam lobes on #1 cylinder will be facing upwards, towards each other @ approx. a 45* angle.
