Default Clutch gurus look here!

So I am in the market for a new clutch and lightweight flywheel. I am likely going to be going with an act setup or jwt. Ive found a jwt clutch and flywheel combo for 650 new, and a new act clutch for 500 and used streetlite flywheel for 100. Do you see any problems with buying a used flywheel? Also anyone have a preferred brand out of these 2? Ive got an 06 that im probably going to be keeping n/a but will be pretty heavily modded so torque demands regardless wont really be an issue from the clutch, I've found that act has one thats pretty streetable for daily driving but will respond at the track as well with a slight firmness over stock feel,I've heard the same things about the jwt. Any help opinions would be sweet thanks!

I have the JWT clutch and the unorthodox flywheel and im loving it. Cant really go wrong with either JWT or ACT combos. Since you know ur staying N/a. For buying a uses flywheel, there are shops that can resurface a flywheel and my it just like new. i dont recommend putting on a used flywheel with out having it resurfaced.

I just replaced my stock clutch (2006) with JWT's clutch/flywheel combo - like it a lot. My clutch started sticking when the car was warm (then slipping) and the JWT cured all of that. Much stiffer, and it really grips. I get a little chatter at low RPMs but not much worse than stock, and completely worth it.

The chatter is normal with the JWT. Look into buying some good fluid to go with that upgrade. I personally like Redline and currently have it in the car.

BTW, how many miles are on your car? It can't be that much.

Did you feel much of an acceleration difference with the flywheel? I think this is probably the one I will go with since it is in my budget.

I’m over 90k miles on the stock clutch, 3k under boost…I’ve got a Jim Wolf flywheel on the way to go along with a new Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch.

Hoping that’ll fix my 102 mph trap, LOL…

I've always been a fan of the heavier steel flywheels over the aluminum because of idle noise.

Bastid! The car has been up to 147mph, and I take it to the track! And before the Hotchkis setup, my rear end would be all over the road from some spirited driving. This car has also been to Zdayz 3 times.

I've installed many many ACT clutches on numberous 400+hp cars.. they hold up for a long time. And since i get a discount on them at my shop, i love them I vote ACT... also.. resurface any used flywheel before installing.. and also make sure you clean with brake cleaner when installing.

Having the ACT setup installed in my 03 Z as I write this. I went with this b/c I picked up a used streetlight flywheel for 100 bucks. Going with the HD and organic street disk since I have bolt-ons and no plan for FI.

85k on my car and no serous clutch issues so far just finally had the parts and money to have this done.

On a scale of one to ten, how much extra noise could be considered normal with a clutch/flywheel upgrade to a DE transmission? I know sounds are silly to gauge in a forum, I'm just trying to get a general idea. Personally after doing the install myself, the clatter is loud enough to get drive-thru attendants to look at me and my car funny... with a simple push on the clutch (in neutral) the rattle goes away. It may sound like a bearing problem but those have been replaced since the initial installation and still no avail. I was hoping this could be attributed to the alum light weight flywheel... love the new acceleration though, would hate to give that up just because the lightweights sound like crap.

Picked up the car last night. ACT streetlite wth ACT HD clutch and perf. street disk. Noticeable improvement in responsiveness. It's only been a day, but noise isn't bad and car is very quiet at idle. My throwout bearing noise from the stock clutch was loud and is finally gone with this setup when in neutral or idle. I believe the noise most people describe with the performance clutches is the rattle when engaged at low RPMS, so from 1000 to 1800-2000rpms it's loud. Above 2000 and you can't hear it. Clutch Pedal feel is not stiffer then stock.

I like it a lot but I kinda wish I had gone with the prolite flywheel, although I'm not sure on the effect of drive ability. Current setup is a great stock flywheel/clutch combo, I am very satisfied.

I'm at 84k and still pushing hard on stock setup...Par, how the hell have you been driving that thing...LOL

I like z1's new MILD performance street clutch, will go to that when/if I blow mine out!!!
Decent price and certainly upgrade capable of handling what we throw at it, NON FI...that includes with the NOS setup...and as previously mentioned, it'll chatter more than stock obv
