Default Engine oil mix

I got Mobile 1 2 1/2 qts of 0w30 and 1 1/2 qt of 5w30. I need to change oil on my mom's car and i was wondering if i can mix these oils together.

I have castrol 0w30 on my 350z and is it ok if i add some Mobile 1 0w30 because my dipstick reads little bit less than High Point.

If your dipstick is at or near the high mark it's full. Weird concept ... Must be a jdm thing

The mixed oil will likely cause the earth to reverse rotation- I wouldn't want that on my shoulders

i'm having ticking/clunking sound after oil change, so i thought the little lack of oil on the dipstick could be the cause.

Sounds you are being sarcastic and it's ok to mix

From all of your posts about all the crap that is wrong with your Z, I would just get rid of it. Every other day I see you post some new issue.....

I would be concerned with rotating the air inmy tires than mixing 2 different weights of Mobil 1 motor oil. Everybodys KNOWS old air & new air will cause the tire to roll in either forward or reverse direction, depending on the direction of travel.

Some people say sure, mix the oil. Others say never to do it. Different companies use different additives. Mixing a small amount of a same brand with a different weight shouldn't hurt. I have topped off with different stuff before and my cars still run fine. Personally, if it's almost time for a change, I'm not buying the good stuff just to pour in and drain out.

If someone care about their car, they wouldn't think about mixing two diff company oil.

Mobil 1 cost 5~7 bucks/qt at walmart, not that much.

How did you check ur oil? And how many times? You don't want your oil to be at full mark (if you did cold check) how many qt you used?

What oil you used before? Same mobil 1?

Mobile 1 costs same as Castrol 0w30 which is like $7.99 retail price.
I'm getting better oil read after sitting it overnight. Wait, i don't want my oil to be at full mark when cold?
I used 5 qts of castrol 0w30 and now i have quite less than high point. I used same amount and brand for my brother's g35 and we have similar oil read, less than high point. So i'm assuming I need more than 5 qt with 0w30. I marked the oil read and i'll check it out after 1000 miles to see if i have oil consumption on my 05.
This is my first time changing oil on my 350z since i got it 23000 miles ago. I believe i put mobile one 5w30 on my bro's G before i changed it to castrol.

My fault. I mistake reading that you had mobil in ur car already.

I never try castrol yet. But i tried mobil 1 on both of my cars and I've read this oil is thiner than others. After put mobil, noise got louder on both of my cars. I'm changing to amsoil soon.

Why not just run 5w30 all year around?

Btw, after you leave your car over night and if your oil shows in that range you are good. Don't need to be add more oil to get that "full" mark.

why can't I add more to get full mark?
I want thicker oil that can handle abuse

0w30 5w30 10w30 they are all same weights. front numbers are what in cold temp, first lower numbers are much better flow at start up. Other than that it's all same at high temp.

Btw, you don't get any benefit running thicker oil unless your motor needs thicker oil than factory.

about the Full/low, that's just me. Some people likes to fill it up to full, which not necessary long as your motor oil is in that range. I don't want to push my car untill redline with that much oil. Like i said, "full" mark is still ok.

If you really like to learn about oil etc, check this forum. Ton of info out there.

Also here is little info from amsoil.

Like adam@z1 mention it, if noise gets louder in future, you might want to check with mechanic.
