Default Turbocharging...

How much boost can a completely stock 350z motor take? with the obvious mod...exhaust.

Which kit would be the best? i've seen two nice kits out there...The greddy one, which i would assume is legal since its...well, greddy...is it? also the Power Enterprize kit...the enterprize kit boasts 400 rwhp....what about the greddy?

Thanks for the time

Mike

GReddy runs their turbos at 5.6 psi. Some various superchargers run at 7 psi.

People on this forum seem to think the VQ is invincible and can take 7, 8, or even 9 psi.

personally, I don't trust 7 psi. 5.6 psi is risky as it is, with 10.3:1 CR, but it's believable.

I intend to fully build my motor for boost, down the line. It's the only truly safe route.

..but I've said all this about 9,395,184 times.. Most people seem to ignore it, assuming 7+ psi is fine.. and I'm kinda getting tired of repeating myself.

azrael hit the nail on the head. Personally I fail to see the point of spending all that money and only running single digits of boost on the stock block.

I fail to see the point of running double digits worth of boost. 7PSI is plenty of power for 95% of the people out there.

So what's your point?

But i assume the 350z motor is a strong motor...I odn't think nissan would make the mistake of making a Z without a good strong motor....am i wrong? I don't really think 7psi would hurt anything.....a stock civic motor which has a compression ratio of 9.6 can take 7 psi daily on stock internals...if the d16 can do it, i think the VQ can too....jsut my opinion.

That's what most people on this forum think, and that's where they're wrong.

a VQ is worlds apart from a D16. They're radically different designs, with their own pros and cons. But just because one motor can take XXX psi all day long, doesn't mean another can.

7 psi is enough for 95% of people. 7 psi might be safe. I don't think it is without some engine management safeguards.. just look at what Jesse and N4SPD are doing. They're creating engine management safeguards to make sure they don't blow their engine. Smart move, IMO.

For me, 7 psi isn't enough in the long run, and I think building the motor is the solution (as money allows). To each their own.. but I'm going to laugh when I see people buying the GReddy TT, twisting the **** on the profec boost controller and blowing engines.

Why would you spend all that money for a turbo kit, and never use it near it's full potential???
Maybe because the z33 isnt meant for boost! That's almost as dumb as spending $4-5k for a blower...only to run low 13s

350z = aluminum block, high compression. Limited in amount of boost. Therefore limited in hp

z32 = iron block , low compression. Can run 17psi on stock internals, stock injectors, stock turbos and run in the 11s easily

mkiv= i think you know this story.

I'm willing to be 7psi will net you a mid 12 second time slip at the best. Good luck keeping that motor in one piece as well.

If I'm going to spend near $10k for a turbo kit, it better put out some HUGE hp numbers.

Ok, so in other words, you'd recomend going all motor? how easy is it to make a 350z run an all motor 11 or 12 second quarter mile time?

Yep, I think it was made clear the 350z was an NA car with no future plans of factory FI. Face it. The 350z does not have the potential that the other cars have out there. Nor does it have the potential for big hp numbers as the previous generation. It is a nice little quick car. Thats about it. Personally I find it pretty sad that sub 13 second timeslips are hard to come by with the current FI available.

Only morons waste time running boost (w/compression that high) on a motor that won't take it.

Man, this board never ceases to amaze me.

Why only run 7 psi? Well, at 7 psi we get quite a bit more power. And believe it or not, some poeple aren't out to get the 800 rwhp dyno king title. Or even to run xx.xx times at the strip. For example...me. I don't give a **** about some dyno numbers or times at the strip. I just wanted to make a car more of what I thought it should have been from the factory.

I'm pretty happy with the power output using the ATI kit. The car is an absolute blast to drive every day. I don't drag race, and I don't go around bragging about my dyno numbers. I was going to sell my kit, but I like it so much I think I'll keep it and correct the one thing that I think it needs...timing control.

You want to talk about whats dumb when it comes to spending money on a car? How about 4k in wheels and tires that actually slow it down? Or a crazy body kit that does nothing but add weight?

Now since you like insulting people, any more questions Pure Assclown?

What an ***, every post I've seen Pure Tremble make has been condescending and rude.

So how about you prove to me that I'm a moron. Let's have some technical data backing up your claims instead of generalizations about aluminum block and high CR engines.

The reason sub 13 second timeslips are hard to come by is because not everyone here get's a hard on about the dragstrip. I've never even dynoed my car because you know what. I don't really care. I drive the car for fun and enjoyment not to prove that I've got a bigger d!ck because I ran the 1/4 mile .3 seconds faster.

This is Pure Tremble

Hope I don't get a strike for this, but I gotta do it.

SO....!! is it easy to make an All motor 350z fast? is a low 12 or 11 sec quarter as easy as H/I/E/cams/valvesprings/retainers/upgraded fuel system/TB/ Intake maniforld?

No, the car weighs too much to run those kind of times just NA. It's gonna take a lot more than that to get 11 sec times.

i have yet to see snapped connecting rods at 7psi, considering greddy ran the kit up to 10 psi and no snap either. The cali car was taken 600 hp in nos when staged rather well until they decided to go one shot for ***** & gingles, that I do recall seeing a snapped connecting rod. From all I've seen during the time the ATI kit came out was situations where improper tuning have caused the failure, not the connecting rods not being strong enough. I have yet to see anyones point saying the VQ cannot take 7psi. Now on another point I will say in their favor of argument that I havent seen a VQ on 7psi with over 7k driven miles, but the engine seems to be able to handle it really well. I base my decisions on facts, and so far everything looks rather well for our car

LOL I wasnt even referring to the prochargers when I said 7psi. We were talking about turbos. Hence the title. Who's the Assclown now?

I just wanted to make a car more of what I thought it should have been from the factory.
I'm glad you knew better than the Nissan engineers

LOL if somebody has to tell you why high compression and aluminum blocks arent good for big boost numbers....then you need some help. Who doesnt know in the tuning world, that it's better to have low compression/high boost THAN high compression/low boost. Iron blocks?

I like your excuse for "the reason sub 13 second timeslips are hard to come by." Needed that laugh.

Thanks for posting Doc. He's a funny guy. Think I'll go watch that movie now actually

Grabs popcorn and waits for more blown procharged engines

Well, then would i be better off going with an all motor CRX with a rebuilt integra type R engine in it? i mean, c'mon guys...you can make a fuking Z fast right? lol

cause i have 25k for a car...i'm trying to get a feel for how much potential these cars have....i know that that CRX would be like a low 12...then again, the 350z gots that class..the new car pimpness, lol
