Default Clutch Advice...Please help

Alright guys,

I'm kind of a noob when it comes to clutches. My 06 Z is at 74000 miles and my clutch feels like its giving up slowly. on top of this, i have been experiencing some issues in hot weather where the clutch drops to the floor and i have to push it up with my foot. Not a good feeling, especially in heavy stop and go traffic. Would replacing the clutch line to a SS helps as well??
I need advice/help...

Is it time to replace my clutch at 74K miles? Or do i have to do something else to prevent any more damage to it?
I went to my local dealer here and those guys quoted me 2400$ to replace the clutch, flywheel for another OEM set.
What are some of good quality aftermarket clutches that are really good for daily driver use. I dont need anything too heavy since i dont race my car or track it. I need something that is pretty close to OEM quality. I looked at the JWT combo they have at coneceptzperformance.com i believe its around 775$ for the set. Is that a good buy?? Form your personal experience, how much should it cost to replace the clutch/flywheel? Problem where i live is, we do not have any shops that deal with Zs by any means. I can travel to AAM motorosports, but thats about 3 hours away of drive. I still need to ask some shops in town for that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

wow thats phoquing steep to replace a clutch go somewhere else and jwt is a great upgrade lighter flywheel and stronger pressure plate, more clamping force, still almost stock drivability minus pedal will be slightly harder to push because of more clamping force and also you will notice a big difference with the lighter flywheel, rpm will rise up way faster and also drop faster because less weight=less inertia but i dont think you will have problems with stalling maybe someone else can state a fact? i do not have a clutch installed yet,i do plan on getting one this summer, ive been considering the jwt for a while and i have a friend that has one and is very happy with it,also check in the vendors drivetrain marketplace and find czp with their jwt deal,775 with ss line and nismo pilot bearing,ss line is a must for an upgraded clutch, gives it a better feel, also the jwt is perfect for everyday driving, track duty and also fi all in mild form, this is a very good clutch,go get it tiger lol,if i was wrong in any statements please correct me,i think ive given a fairly good opinion and czp are good people to deal with as for places you can go i cant help you but no no on the dealer lol you can get work wheels for that price

Thanx for the input. I am definently keeping my eyes on the JWT combo, also the SS line. I just need to find a resonable shop around here that wont rip me a new A-HOLE with the price. I couldnt believe the dealer quote, those jackasses are retarded. i can buy an exhaust and a whole suspension set up and extras for that money...

your clutch is not your problem - your master or slave cylinder (or both) are the likely culprits. These are normal wear items

a worn clutch slips - meaning, lower rpm (say 2k) in 4th or 5th gear...if rpm increases and the car doesn't move as you try to accelerate, clutch is done. If not, it's fine

You don't need any special shop to replace these either, it's nothing unique to a Z setup.

We're also doin a free stainless clutch line and chromoly pivot ball with that combo.

You could very well just need some clutch hydraulic parts. Maybe a good bleed would even do it. A quick easy check is to pull the boot back on the slave cylinder and see if some fluid drops out. If so, time to replace.

I went ahead and ordered both the Master and Slave Cylinder, im hoping this should resolve the issue. If not, im ordering a new clutch and going from there. Thank you for the input.

+1

I had the exact same problem with my 06Z where the clutch pedal will not come back up during hot weather or during stop/go city traffic.

I bleeded the clutch fluid and replaced with Motul DOT 5.1 and the problem went away. Did not have replace any parts.

I believe the OEM nissan clutch fluid sucks.

Good luck.

you would use an OEM master/slave

stainless clutch line is a nice addition, cheap, and works well

bleeding...can be done the old fashioned way, or with a Motive Power Bleeder

My shop did the bleeding and replacing the clutch fluid.
But I did see that it was a 2 person job because you need someone sitting in the driver seat pumping the clutch.
