Cool Is a Twin Turbo a Good Idea?

I am possibly looking into getting a twin turbo installed in my '08 Nismo. Before I even start looking for kits, I would like to ask if it is a good idea. I have very little knowledge of engines and was hoping to learn more about them by reading along this forum. I have heard from some people that installing a twin turbo or even just a turbo can cut your engine life in half. This would not work for me because I am keeping this car for 7 years - death. I just want to have my car perform even better and have some additional speed. If anyone could educate me a little on this subject I would be very appreciative.
