I think your Z will be the 2nd or 3rd 350Z with a JZ swap. Definitely a rare swap indeed. Can't wait to see this completed.

one of them really post anything online, thats about to change! ill prolly start my own youtube channel for it

3hree5ive0ero 11-08-2011 05:59 PM

If you can post up as much descriptive information as possible throughout your progress, even though you're not doing the work yourself, it would be awesome for reference purposes.

graffkid732 11-08-2011 06:13 PM

I have been wanting to do this for awhile. Once funds come up or I can sell my setup now this will be going down. Good luck with everything. Will definitely be checking back here for updates.

travismaser 11-08-2011 06:20 PM

awesome! i deff wana see some other guys do this kinda build...there is sooo much potential in these motors!

i will try as hard as i can to get into detail about what is going on with the build as it goes! but if you have any questions at all, PLEASE ASK...if i dont know the answer, i can deff get the answer for you! I usually have a long chat with Tony every afternoon and he breaks down everything he did that day and we go over plans and make sure everythign is going to be perfect for me when i get the car back...i have never worked with such a professional person in my life...when it comes to customer service, Tonys the sh*t!

str8dum1 11-08-2011 06:50 PM

whats the deal with the bellhousing if you are using a 2JZ motor and a toyota tranny? shouldnt you just need a custom driveshaft?

im not going to run the 6spd trans from the 2jz motor because of price (about $4,500.00 just for the trans) so i am using the R154 from the 1JZ motors...it only runs about $700.00 and will be plenty of trans for my build...to mount it i need the bell housing

travismaser 11-09-2011 04:25 PM

Not much to report till Monday except that more parts have arrived, whole turbo kits been ordered, and the wrong head gasket was sent.... Hopeing the bell housing gets there early Monday so tony can start mounting the motor!!!

kacz07 11-13-2011 06:02 AM

Great to hear there are still shops with great customer service. Enjoy your build. Makes me curious enough to consider it.

a little update:

-chrome should be done by the end of the week...
-bell housing was shipped from texas on monday...im hoping for it to arrive this week...but most likely not till monday of next
-head gasket was sent but they sent the wrong one, sooo the new one is in route..
-my entire turbo kit is at the shop and ready to be bolted on, just at a stand still with the rest of the parts

Quamen 11-15-2011 03:42 PM

Looking forward to seeing you complete your swap! The painted engine bay looks very clean!

Hey guys! Check out www.stancemonkeys.com!! There is an article about my build on there!!

Vas_Z33 11-17-2011 04:40 AM

Hey quick question.. I saw in the pix that you put a smaller flange on top of the manifolds original flange?. why did you do this? if you don't mind me asking.. is it to fit the current turbo? or to place it differently? if so wouldn't it restrict? it looks like the flange is smaller

Fugotti 11-17-2011 05:07 AM

ohhhh myyyy.... Sub'd

str8dum1 11-17-2011 08:00 AM

from the article.

"The GT35R has a t3 flange and unfortunately the new headers have a t4. An adapter is available, but would push the turbo to high and interfere with the hood. Not a problem for tony though. He welded a t3 flange onto the new headers and angled it so the turbo outlet does not hit the coolant flange and allows a filter to be put on."

Seems nuts to put a smaller flange instead of getting a T4 housing. That turbo is tiny as it is and will choke out even faster with a T3 flange

How much power are you looking for if you don't mind me asking? I didn't see it earlier but will recheck.

yep thats what confused me..:dunno:

thawk408 11-17-2011 09:03 AM

Why wouldn't you just swap the turbine housing out for a t4? They do make them.

honestly, i just had that turbo sitting here and i told tony to make it work...later on down the road i am going to be doing a much bigger turbo setup...but this turbo is just for getting it running pretty much right now...the turbo should still be good for mid 500ish hp tho...im hopeing

But now you will have to take the manifold off, cut the flange off, and then weld a new t4 flange onto the manifold. Just seems like a lot of backwards steps when a housing is cheap.
