my Toyota 350Z build :)

HUGE UPDATE ON COMMENT #392, I AM NO LONG AFFILIATED WITH SHIFTED PERFORMANCE AND URGE YOU TO WATCH YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE, OR ARE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM...

HERE IS MY EXPERIANCE WITH SHIFTED PERFORMANCE THREAD LINK!!!
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-...ml#post9690587

Hey guys! so here it is, i finally started my 2JZ swap in my 06 350z!

Im taking my current APS single turbo (GTM upgrade kit) VQ out and going a little bit of a different route then i have been seeing everyone else do....for many different reasons...but mainly because you just dont see it and i want to be unique...

I was origionally going to do this swap myself but after further research in the Tech 2 kits, i wasn’t very impressed...sooooo i was contacted by a company in New Jersey that specializes in this type of swap and they deff caught my eye! after i went down and checked out the shop, met with the owner and went over my plans for my build, Tony at Shifted Performance gave me a deal that i couldn’t beat. (for those interested in the shop or maybe getting more info, you can shoot me a PM or just add them on Facebook)

so a year later once i was ready for the build, i took my Z down to Tony and handed him the money needed to start the build and thats where we are today, 1 week in and i already have a motor, trans, bellhousing, turbo, wastgate, BOV, all new gaskets, pullys, belts, head studs, clips for the wiring harness, fittings, paint, sent parts off to be chromed, and have started pulling all my current setup out (im sure im missing some stuff as well but ill catch it further on in this thread as the build goes on)

Link to my first build thread:
https://my350z.com/forum/north-west/...tle-build.html

First, some pics of the car as of now:

BUT, i guess this thread is no good without pics...sooo here are what i have so far:

And today (11/2/11) we started pulling the motor out, just don’t have any pics of that yet...soon as i have them, they will be posted as well!

Im going to try and at least update this once a day with ANY progress...with the way Tony works, there is something new everyday!

This is the video I watched... Now that I watch it again, i noticed you don't have a CF hood.. so nvm, but if you had a CF hood.. you guys' cars would look identical.

Cool swap. Cant wait to see the final results!

Chris

CTZ860 11-02-2011 08:19 PM

Damn thats awesome, prolly more rare than a LS swap.
Did you buy the motor locally or from a JDM vendor. And if you don't mind me asking which JDM vendor....?

travismaser 11-02-2011 08:24 PM

Tony at Shifted has a vendor he sources his motors from...its nice because he gets to hand pick what motor he wants and does a compression check on the spot...

travismaser 11-02-2011 08:33 PM

another pic from the motor pull!

because of space, i have to go with a single turbo...so at first we are just going to run a GT35R as a sorts "break in" turbo and aim for around 5-600 wheel hp...but later on i plan on stepping it up to something more like a garrett 4294....

BornSlippyZ 11-03-2011 06:56 AM

Very nice swap op!

Deedilus 11-03-2011 09:31 AM

travismaser 11-03-2011 04:58 PM

hey guys, i just got off the phone with Tony and i got some info on 2JZ swap kits that he is making available in the VERY near future...$1,150.00 for the kit if you want to do the work yourself! and since he is going to have a Shifted 2JZ kit, i assume the price for him to do the work will also go down!!!

hit me up for more info if you are interested!!!

^^^^

Would be interested to see the numbers once everything is bolted up how it fits ect.

2JZ-GTE > LS1> boosted VQ imo.

Will you be able to keep power steering , Ac , creature comfort things?

AngelsVQ 11-03-2011 06:22 PM

In for nice build

Itz_Gizzy 11-03-2011 06:32 PM

bbs350z 11-03-2011 08:52 PM

dude this is awesome. many people will argue that its a waste with the .5l decrease, but these motors are just so much more stout than the vq. i went ls on mine but i contemplated going the 2jz route as well. just simply awesome!

travismaser 11-04-2011 03:46 PM

thanks guys!! im super excited for the car to get done! i need to give tony a call tonight and get the new pics from today! cant wait to see what magic hewored in 12 hours!!!

Royal_T 11-05-2011 01:12 PM

Can't wait to see this finished..

ill keep you posted on everything! and yes, i will be keeping everything...the only things i wont be able to keep is obviously the guages on the center of the dash...but im replacing them with defi stuff anyways.

should be a totally new car as in performance but still hold the same "goodys" as a normal Z

AngelsVQ 11-05-2011 10:58 PM

Keep us posted on the price of everything

so far its not OVERLY bad...but still not cheap...i figure im going to have about what you would have doing a tt setup on the VQ...

-Shifted performance 2jz kit- $1,150 (r154 trans mount, motor mount, motor mount brackets, shifter extension kit ( need core))
-motor- $2300
-trans- (r154) $700
-already had my turbo and wastgate- free
a shifted performance turbo kit is available (prices vary)
-all labor from shifted- $5,000 (turn key swap)
-had all my guages- free
-BOV- free
-shifted intercooler kit- $650
-shifted radiator kit- $550
NOTE: the radiator is a koyo radiator that koyo custom modifies to fit in the Z...the cool part about this is that it hides all welds and stilll looks Koyo perfect...unlike other companys that do this where they modify it themselves...with the way the Z is setup, it also allowes you to use the radiator hose kit made for the tt supra! no searching for the perfect fit here!!
-ARP head studs- $120
-engine harness services- $450
(no additional charge for wiring in guages ext.)
-bellhousing- $340

then i went ahead and redid all of the gaskets, clips, belts, pullys, had everything chromed, wire tucked, and engine bay repainted...so i have extra money in that

travismaser 11-06-2011 12:07 PM

O, by the way! If anyone's looking for a single turbo kit, I have mine for sale! Hit me up with a PM for more info!

Deedilus 11-07-2011 04:58 AM

Thanks for the price info, I've decided when I finally need more out of my Z that I want to go this route instead of LS, love the JZ motor. Can't wait to see more pics!

BoomerZ33 11-07-2011 10:02 AM

nice progress so far. definitely subd.
