Default OS GIKEN LSD question

so im ready to pull the trigger on a OSG LSD, im just a bit confused on something.

One company tells me I do need 2 axle stubs for a base model drop in, one company tells me I do not .

this is for a 2007 BASE model open diff Z.

can anyone clarify whether I need the 2 stubs or not for a base model drop in kit? I dont want to buy it with the stubs and their useless, I also dont want to buy it without the stubs and need them!

thanks

have you tried calling OS directly? They have a US office
http://www.osgiken.net/contactus.php

Or call forged performance. They just put in the OS LSD for my vLSD which I did need axel stubs for. So they should be able to help you out too.

I have an 06 base and needed both replaced. The difference is the taper or lack of taper(flat top) of the shafts. TOr you can machine the shaft's groove to compensate the old style c ring.

I just want to know for sure from someone that has installed it into a base model HR Z whether you need 2 stubs or if you can use your OEM one.

a quote from a company I talked to "Every Z has the stubs the difference is their length"

I did PM the OP of that write up so thanks for the link BIGALOW!

The base models from 2006 and up include this type of axle shaft

which will not work, you need the ones from a vlsd with the "flat head".

Read post #1 of that thread, it shows the two types of shafts side by side. Take yours off to see what you need.

oh so that is why 03-05 base model Z OSG and 06-08 base model Z OSG kits are different priced.

im assuming the "axle stubs" that these companies are offering with their "base model drop in kit" is from a VLSD

yeah all the companies ive talked to are including new bearings, seals, fluid and everything with the base model drop in kit!

the only confusiion I have is one company says one thing and has a quote, one company says another thing with a different quote so I didnt know who to listen to.

so open diff 06-08 are all the?
cool I always thought 07-08 were different then 03-06.

What it boils down to if that YOU need to find out whether not not you have a VLSD in your base model or not. The link explained that the OS Giken is basically made for Z33s that do not have a VLSD. If you have a VLSD then you'll need the 03-05 base model shaft. Lucky Z1 Auto is well aware of the situation and sells VLSD kit.

Talk to Adam from Z1. He'll tell you exactly what you need to do.

They're the people that sold me the 1 shaft I needed as well. They're usually right about Z33 ****. They're very detail oriented and seem to be always messing around with manufactured parts.

***EDIT***
Their website says:
2006-2008 owners, please contact us with your VIN number so we can determine the proper installation parts required, as they vary from car to car.

In addition, we can also offer all the bearings, seals, etc that are suggested to be replaced when you install this, or any other LSD. Contact us for full details.

so I was told that if I get 1 stub I need to get the other side shaved to fit the C clamp? if I buy 2 stubs I don't need to get anything done, just install and go, if I buy 0 stubs I need both sides modified?

I just got a email from Mark over at OS GIKEN.

"thanks for considering OS for you LSD. Originally the 350 LSD needed stub axle replacement for fitment to vq35hr and vq37n but we developed a new version specifically for vq35hr and vq37 fitment. For OEM open different it should be a direct drop in, our part# is ns112-ha."

has anyone tried this new style yet? I dont know how it would be possible to do this without buying axle stubs or modifying anything else?

There's two types of shafts that the Z33 has (pictured in that thread). If Nissan told you that your shafts are the same as the 03-05 and you don't have a VLSD then you're good with the DE model OS.

If OS constructed a HR model for non-VLSD (which it sounds like they did) then you're good to go for that model as well. If you're still not satisfied then Google *******.com to see if anyone is using it in their pumpkin.

Have the money? Get the OS.

I never used any Cusco bits but, at the same time, when I've done my research of Cusco vs another product, that other product seemed to fit my needs more. I recommend the Nismo LSD if you're looking at an alternative. A lot of Z owners say good things about it.
