Default Clutch Problems

Am I the only one that had to have his clutch replaced so far ? I know a few people have reported having their clutch replaced when they changed out transmissions, or did it just to have a better clutch, but can't find any reference to the clutch failing outright like mine has.

All I know is that I was having slipping problems and burnt clutch smell from almost the first month of driving this car. I think that the clamping force of the stock pressure plate was lower then normal and letting my clutch slip too much. I really wanted my Nissan dealer to make the warranty cover it, but they wouldn't even try. I am thinking of calling NISSAN directly to complain about how fast the clutch disc failed. I only had 11,000 miles and 12 months when it failed. Any one have any suggestions of what I might say to them or reasons they should pay for at least the install ? So far my stock transmission is not giving me any trouble, so couldn't use that as an excuse.

I've had two transmission replacements, one at 7500 miles (3rd gear grind) and another at around 11 K (transmission locked in 6th gear). At about 18k, the clutch went out. Nissan tried to make me pay for it, but with the problems I've had, it didn't take too much of a complaint on my part to get it covered (fully).

I know of at least one other person that has had their clutch go out. It happened at 13k and he couldn't get them to budge on eating the cost... maybe got a little off the quoted price, but I'm not sure.

BTW, I saw the clutch. Looked like it expoded. They tried to make me believe that I was the cause of course, but I've had 5 different cars with manual trans and this was my first clutch to ever go out.

Also, I never had a burnt clutch smell with the first one. Since the replacement, I've smelled it way too much. Starting to get a little worried and I'm going to have them look over it when I go in for an oil change next week.

Good luck.

make sure they document your concern. In my case I took it in at both 3 and 6K with the burnt smell and they said it was fine. However at 11K when they said it was bad .......... no record of my earlier complaints. My last service rep said if it had been documented he might have been able to get it under warranty.
