Crank position sensor failure..
I got a letter from my Nissan Dealer to bring my Z for service.
The leter states:
"This notice is in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Nissan North America Inc. wishes to inform you that your '03 Nissan 350Z may have a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety. There is a possibility that the engine may stop running while being driven if the crank position sensor fails. This may result in service engine soon light coming on or reduced engine power. If the engine stops running while driving, this could result in a CRASH without warning."
Has anybody got a similar notice from their dealers? What about those that replaced their crank pulleys, will it affect the crank position sensors? Is there a reason to panic?

My car died on me the other day. At first I thought it was a leak in my manifold, but now I am thinking that it is the Crank Sensor. My car suddenly died in the middle of an intersection. The car would crank, but the engine would not turn over. I waited 10 min, and the car cranked right back up. Got the car home, parked it and the car would not crank til the next day, when I reset the ECU by unplugging the battery? My car was produced in July 2002, so I fall under the cars that may have the crank sensor problem. No letter from Nissan yet.
That's the recall that has been mentioned on here a few times. Do a search for more specific info. It only affected a small number of Z's, so I guess you are one of the "lucky" ones.
No need to panic, just take the car in to your dealer when you get a chance (may want to call them first to make sure they have the replacement parts ready) and have them fix the problem.
