Rear end?
Ok guys, I have had my 2005 350Z base model about a month now. From what I have read the Base model did not come with lsd of any fashion. However I discovered this past weekend that when I burn out, or launch really hard both my rear tires leave rubber. This has to mean I have some sort of lsd right?
Both wheels are capable of getting power with an open diff. If I remember right, when you put a car with an open diff up on jack stands and hit the gas both wheels will spin.
I'm not 100% and don't want to spread misinformation, as most car sites are full of it, so do some research and let us know what you figure out.

You can jack the back up and see if the other spins the opposite direction of the one you're spinning by hand. Maybe you got lucky and bought one that had a limited slip installed.

I know the above article is off-road related however it goes through different types of differentials. The way I understand is that with a "open" differential the differential puts power to both wheels until one wheel slips, then it receives all the power and you will get a "one wheel burnout". However with lsd you will get a two wheel burnout because the non slipping wheel receives the power.

So if I jack the rear up and spin one of the wheels, the other wheel should spin the opposite way if I have lsd? Was it possible to order a base model with lsd or would this have to be an option added on by one of the previous owners?

My base with an open differential, spins both tires, sometimes. If you jack up the rear spin one wheel and if the other spins the opposite direction, then you have a open differential. If both spin the same direction you have an lsd of some kind.
Maybe you got a car that was modded by the previous owner who installed LSD. Best way to find out, jack up rear up both wheels off the ground, spin one wheel, see if it goes in the opposite direction. Same direction = LSD, opposite = open diff.
So if I put it on jackstands and both tires go to the same direction I have aftermarket lsd, however it one goes one way and the other the opposite I could still have an open or vlsd? How is it possible for an open diff to put power down on both wheels to leave rubber from both tires. I have watched countless videos of open diff cars leaving rubber with only one tire.
I've put down two even patches once or twice with my base model before, and I'm certain it has the open diff. I think if the road is flat enough to where both wheels can keep equal power (or slip the same amount i guess) then it has the capability?
More often than not I'll leave just one tread-mark though.

No you can't tell just by a burn out. I've had countless RWD solid axle cars mostly Mustangs, LSD and open they all left 2 streaks of goodness in a straight line. An open diff can still spin both wheels just slipping of one wheel may occur.
I'm pretty sure the 1 wheel peel is mainly seen in lower powered cars or like someone said wet grass. If you happen to turn in while accelerating you will probably notice it more than in a straight burn out.

I stand corrected, if you launch too hard you may also get one wheel. I got a buddy with a Camaro with traction-loc. He's pushing 400+hp and even he gets that occasionally. Guess even the trac-loc fails at a certain point.
Guess the only way to know for sure is to grab a wrench and open her up.
