Default Fellow members NA/FI modification goals?

I am interested in everyones performance goals as far as modifying their engine, drivetrain, etc (HP goals, 1/4 mile times, 5mph roll, top speed).
Although I know we have a track car, and not a drag car, I am interested in 1/4 mile times, and 5mph roll to gauge acceleration performance. I would also ask for slalom goals, but I don't want this to be posted in the general forum. With the usual I/H/E, plenum, cams, light flywheel, pulleys, and an ECU, how much could one hope to lower 1/4 mile times? If the car went from a 13.8 to a 13.0, is that really worth 10k+? Is FI more bang for your buck in anyone's opinion? Obviously there are more reliability issues by going with FI. Lastly, has anyone considered a final drive kit?
The enjoyment you get out of modifying your car is a great thing. Seeing your car evolve from a bone stock baby into a loud souped up snarling monster gives every modder a warm fuzzy feeling. But has anyone sat back and realized they could've bought a Corvette Z06, and regretted it?

The 350Z gives more than just pure power to the owner of one. First of all there isnt a million of them on the road giving the 350Z owner that many more ........wow your car is great, nice job, thumbs up...etc.etc.etc..........Sure a ZO6 is fast but geez there are so many corvettes on the road, they kinda blend in like a Taurus...................just my 2 cents..........oh and one last thing to answer one of your questions, no F/I is the second best bang for your buck, Nitrous Oxide is the best bang for the buck and the Z loves it when done correctly.......Peace and Take Care!

Well, about that... I live in a city of 22 thousand people (relatively small). There are already 6 Z's here that I see on a regular basis in the summer. I was the second in the city to have a Z, then alot more jumped on after that. There are two daytona blues, one black, one red, one brickyard, and one silver. One of the db's is mine. That's not counting the one's I havn't seen.

If I were set a goal and meet it, i'd kinda get bored of it sooner.

So no goals, I just like bolting stuff on as it comes out slowly. Kinda fun to wait and slowly modify when you feel like it. Makes it feel like a new car each time -- revitalizes the excitement. Kinda like trying new positions with your wife (or role playing I guess) dunno, i'm not even married.

Stock, I got a 14.0/101 in the quarter and from my experience, I think traction and gearing were a problem. I spun heavily even when launching @ 2000 rpms. Also, once I did get started it took an eternity to get into the Z's powerband. Once there, everything was fine. But it was an agonizing wait.

This April when the track opens, I hope to get a 13.5 with mods. I hope to get there with three mods which I think address the problems with this car. (Not really problems, but I think our car underperforms its peers even though it has more power) I have everything but the R&P. (Due March 1) Honestly, I would be pretty darn satisfied with a 13.5 for about $1800.

Ring & Pinion
ECU
Wider/Stickier Tires

Not sure if I'll make it, but it beats spending $10,000 for a 13.1.

After that, I'm not sure. Maybe I'll just be happy with it. I plan on tracking it this spring as well. So maybe that will tell me where the next mods go.

Yeah, 10K for a 13.1 is aweful. That's why I am very discouraged by the modability of our Z so far. What is ring and pinion? I'm not familiar with that?

I'd like to keep the car NA and achieve 350HP

but the Vortech is calling me. Only time will tell if I remain with
a NA set up or go for FI

Still early in the Mod game to tell

A ring and pinion (or final drive) is part of the differential. The ring and pinion are metal gears with teeth on them. The ratio of teeth between the gears determines the final drive ratio. From the factory our final drive ratio is 3.54:1. So, for every 3.54 turns of the driveshaft the wheels turn once. With the aftermarket set, it takes 3.91 rotations of the driveshaft to turn the wheels once. It has the same effect as shifting to a lower gear on a bicycle.

Ahh I'm familiar with what a final drive kit does, i've just never heard it called ring and pinion

Are there any final drive kits available for the Z?

I hope to achieve a N/A 300whp. With the current mods that are out in the market right now, it's probably not enough. I just need to be patient.

There are enough mods out there to hit that. You're joking? There are TONS of things to install to make more than that even. If you need a list, PM me.

I'd like to see a 10.99 before I blow it up again! It might be dreaming, but someone will sooner or later on a "daily driver"!!
