Default Drain Plug washer

How much are you paying? I went to my dealer and asked for 5 of them, he comes back with 5, and says they are $1.25 each, WTF, for a washer, not even the plug. He also, said they were universal and fit all newer Nissan vehicles. Is that true?

Also, he quoted me a price for a NISMO exhaust for $1100 and thats NOT installed,

BTW, he was not very friendly, and didn't really want to talk to me about NISMO parts. Its rude people like that, that hurt businesses.

Okay, I'm done venting.

It's not good to buy Nismo from a place like that. It sounds like they don't do a tenth of the volume Performance Nissan does, so they probably couldnt' offer the same prices anyway.

If you have another dealer close to you I'd tell that guy to take his washers and shove them up his ***. Luckily for me, my local dealer is very mod/customer friendly. As well they should be.

I remeber when I went to ask for 10 washer for my Z and the guy just gave it to me. I also had to pick some up for my 03 Accord V6 also and they asked like $1.10 for them. Maybe $1.25 might be right.

Maybe you want to order them from Jason@Performance. Just tell him you want to order a bunch of things from him (10 washers).

Are you guys changing these ever oil change?

I'm sure not. My washer on my GM car lasted nearly 90K miles. I bought one of these Nissan washers to have handy if I need it, but I'm still using my original one after about 4 oil changes.

I hear it is recommend that you should change your washer after every oil changes or every other oil change.

yeah it is reccomended, also heard people that dont use them at all with no noticable effects.

I just ordered a filter and 5washers from courtesy with some other stuff. next time I need a filter Ill add some wiper blade replacements and maybe an air filter for good measure. for the most part its all pretty cheap stuff, the problem is the shipping will probably be more than the order, so while your at it, might add on the nismo exhaust or sidemarkers, shiftboot, whatever.

I don't care if they recommend it or not. They also recommended you not use synthetic to some people here, and I don't buy that crap

IMO, unless your drainplug leaks, it is a waste to change it every time.

maybe so, but 79cents... not that Im outright disagreeing or anything, every other car on this planet gets by without one, I dont beleive that they have bolts that seal better than the nissan bolt.

but 70cents... how do you NOT use it? I guess if you just arent around a place to purchase it. then I understand.

anyone using this? if so, what size, F103? so i suppose that you NEVER have to worry about replacing any washers? it looks a little fragile IMO ~like if i hit a bump the safety lock might come lose and drain out all the oil while im driving. Also, wouldn't there be a problem with ground clearence if the car was lowered (with the non N-type Valve)

Is it really worth 20+ bucks? I mean it doesnt really reduce the amount of time to take of the bolt and as for the mess, its more the oil filter than the drain plug.

NM, did some research and answered my own questions.

A lot of people have been using this for years and haven't had any problems. I guess you dont really have to worry about it comming lose and draining out all the oil. Theres a spring in there that looks like its gonna need a good amount of force to lift.

As for the ground clearence, it doesnt really look like a problem since we have a skid plate ~duh.

As for the washers, they usually come with two: a crush washer and a blue washer. Some cars use both, some cars use two of the other and some cars leak no matter what so you have to use some silicon. I suppose zimbo can answer this one? Of corse, I dont think you really have to replace it since it never needs to come off ~duh.

The only one I havent really answered is...is it really worth it?

The stock washer isn't a crush washer so you don't need to replace it every oil change. So far I have though out of habit but yeah they're expensive. I've go to find another source. They can't be that hard to find.

The other advantage of the fumoto valve is that you can get a small sample of oil to send off for evaluation w/o having to drain the whole thing.

Plus, it's easier and less messy.

the stock washer was a crush washer from my point of view... needs to be replaced everytime to maintain its purpose IMO. just a question of what its purpose is.

The stock washer is a crush washer and it's purpose is to prevent you from over torqueing the drain plug to the oil pan. I does nothing to keep the oil from leaking out; that's what the oil plug does. It's pefectly fine to reuse; just don't over torque the drain plug. Both my Z and my bike still have the original crush washers after several oil changes with no problems. Our spark plugs also come with crush washers for the same reason.

I'm wondering if you guys have the same copper washer as we have. Nissan here had a hard time even locating the part for me as they have it listed as a non crush washer not requireing replacement and so rarely sell any.
