I normally leave it in neutral with the ebrake on. But then again i never park on hills or anything, if i do i just put it in first...not sure it really matters what gear to be honest.

You might regret that one day. Just saying. I did when I first got my Z. The e-brake gave out and I rolled into my friend's Jeep. It was the slightest hill so barely any damage, just dents from his front license plate bolts.

To the OP. I usually either park in 3rd or reverse. Usually 3rd, and reverse if the front is pointing down. No reason for why I pick 3rd, other than it being just the "go to gear" I guess for me since you just push the shifter forward lol.

No i agree, but where i live everything is pretty much flat, the car wont roll anywhere, if there is ever a chance of it i put it in gear for sure. Was it your thread i remember hearing about the car rolling down the hill and a neighbor coming and knocking on the door like dude your cars down the hill in the middle of an intersection or something haha. Or maybe it was someone else?

That was a pretty unfortunate incident lol

I always park in 2nd gear with the e-brake engaged, by the book you're supposed to use 1st and/or neutral I believe.

Bank robbers and teenagers whose girlfriend’s dad has a shotgun always leave the car parked in first gear for a quick getaway and so should you. First gear gives the engine the most leverage over the wheels to hold the car in place (reverse is too awkward to use) . The synchro unit for first gear barely gets any hard use in normal driving, so it’s one you least worry about. Also, we should always strive for efficiencies in our lives. Jump in, push clutch pedal, turn key, let out clutch and gone escaping the hail of shotgun pellets. Not having to fiddle with the shifter lever on most every start up will save you dozens of minutes over a lifetime. What could be better than that?

Use whatever gear has the highest ratio, probably reverse. The higher the ratio, the more force it takes to move the car.

First when facing uphill, reverse when facing downhill (so the engine would have to run "backwards").

That's what I was taught, oh so many years ago.
