Question What should I get next??

I have an '03 Performance 350z- stock.

I recently bought an Injen CAI and the Nissan dealership is willing to install it for $250. I also bought the test pipes.

Here are my questions:

1) What is the best exhaust system I can get? Do I need headers if I get a new exhaust?

2) What should I get next?

3) When do I need to upgrade the ECU?

4) Should I go with the dealer for installation or should I go to a performance shop?

Thanks for any advice you can give-
Jose

That's what we have been talking about for the last 1.5 years.

Are you on crack? Absolutely do not pay $250 to have your intake installed.

1. It depends on who you ask. Here is a link to an exhaust comparison, although some people think its unreliable ( http://www.everything350z.com/ubbthr...psed_2__1.html ). The only other comparison was done by SportZ magazine.

2. Since you have an intake and test pipes, next you should get an exhaust or plenum if your staying n/a.

3. This is somewhat controversial. Some say you should get the ecu upgrade if your car doesnt respond well to the mods, while others say that you should do it regardless.

4. Judging by what your dealer is charging for a relatively simple install, I wouldnt have them do any install work on your car. if you have a good performance shop in your area go their instead. unless your mechanically challenged you can do all the install work yourself.

$250 what the F?? at least call some places to look for better prices. Or if you want to try, install it yourself.

Hey Jose, I'm in Augusta, if you want you can drive down and I'll help you install it for free. And direct you to a guy here that will put in your test pipes for $80.00 (he did it for mine, I couldn't get my bolts off to do it myself). Let me know. And what dealer do you have? I guess they're mod friendly if they offered to install your CAI for you.

Please ask the dealership that is charging you $250.00!!! for the install of your Injen intake if they are going to give you some Vaseline with that because they are RAPING YOU!!! Please do not pay for the install try doing it yourself and you'll see that it is not that difficult.

As previously noted, I sure hope the $250.00 is the cost of intake+install, otherwise you're getting bent over.

No, they want $250.00 just for the CAI installation

Is this a simple bolt on addition?
I mean how hard can it be?
Do I need special tools?
What about the sensors?
Does the CAI come with instructions?
Is there a webpage or a link I can go to see step by step installation
I'm not scared!

please help!

It's not as simple as some other intakes but it's a great place to start if you don't know much about modding your car. The installation should only take you 4 hours AT MOST with basic hand tools. If it wasn't your first intake, I'd say it would take you an hour or so, but you'll want to be careful. There is only one sensor you have to worry about, which is the MAF sensor and it is protected by its housing. Injen does package it with instructions but they suck ****.

I don't know if there is an instruction set on this site but I, or anyone else, can walk you through it and help you out.

check out the online DIY article written by Christi, this will save you $250, so you can put toward other mods.

Please do it yourself. You will get pimped if you let the dealer do it.

With my Injen CAI I converted it to a short "ram air" setup similar to the JWT pop charger. It sounds mean above 5k rpm. The test pipes are rather loud and raspy. If you're ever down this way let me know so I can let you hear it in person. There's another guy in Augusta that has a Stillen exhaust, but he's rarely online. I may be up that way to check out USC in Columbia for grad school, I'll PM you if I do.

Did you use the filter from the JWT pop charger kit or are you using the Injen filter. I was also thinking about setting up my Injen this way, but I'd like to get the JWT heat shield first.

I'm using everything that came with the Injen kit, minus the extended part. With this set up it really screams up top. I agree a heat shield would be nice though.
