Apologies if this has been asked, but I could not find a solid answer anywhere.

I am a new owner of an 06 Z. It has an aftermarket turbo set up that I feel will just cause me issues. Granted, I love the power but I'm ignorant with FI and there are some problems with it already, hence my reluctancy to keep it boosted. The reason for this post is for advice on removal. If the turbo is removed, would a new tune be required? If so, is driving the car to the location of said tune safe? Is there a way to manually disconnect the turbo (safely) and see if that solves some of my drivability issues (Service engine light, turbo sputter etc) then connect it again, with out a re-tune or is that required?

I don't know the name of the turbo or where to find that info. I do have a revup Osorio in box, and extra injectors, I believe these are stock ones. However the ecu management system I have, I don't know how to use.

Lots of ignorance, but the car was a gift to me. So I wasn't able to do final inspection on a lot of things.

Basically, I'm in the dark here. The car overall is wonderful, but I'd like to protect my wallet a bit. Thanks for any direction you can provide.

 

First post pics of under the hood. Next, anything we say may be an educated guess unless you can find out exactly what you have.

Wow that looks like a cheap built.

Onto the questions. First of all, there is no no way to "disconnect the turbo to see if its thats causing the problem". Secondly, if it was me personally, i would remove it then have it tow for a retune.

But before doing all that, i would see what the actual problem was. Either way, this looks like a cheap built and a full blown headache and not worth the trouble. Just my .02 though.

 

Download UpRev software, remove tune and remove UpRev from the car. When Uprev is removed, it will have OEM settings.

 

Props for the mad max engine pic. I would bring it to a shop and have them check it out because it seems you might be in a little over your head on this one... But here are some good questions.. Did you get any of the stock parts with the car? Do you still have catalytic converters anywhere? Have you checked with an obd2 for what codes you are throwing?

Its not going to be easy or cheap to get back to stock. Your exhaust manifolds are not going to be easy to put back on. Your tune afterwords really is the least of your worries... If you dont have any good shops around I would call z1 motorsports.

 

So this would get the ecu back to stock and I can proceed in removing the turbo?


The only stock part I have are the injectors.

I live in Arizona, if anyone knows of a local shop that would have experience in this type of situation that would be wonderful. I have checked the codes, and all I'm getting is for 2 O2 sensors. I was told front and back from autozone.

The turbo actually runs pretty solid considering, it's when I'm at wot a considerable amount, that it starts to "get stuck" and I have to let off the gas. Otherwise when it kicks in like it should, it is great.

However, like it has been said, the jobs not pretty. I noticed that right off, function > form in this case, too bad both are suffering right now.

 

Well you probably dont have any catalytic converters under their so that would throw a code but you might want to start gathering all the oem parts or aftermarket parts your going to need to remove. The exhaust manifolds are not going to be easy to put back on. Catalytic converter. The 02 sensors. Whatever intake. Maf tube, hmmm what else

 

you are going to need cats and headers depending on the turbo.... sounds like you bit off more than you can chew.

 

Looks like I'm going to have to start collecting things together. And hitting up some junkyards/classifieds.
Fortunately last night I did find a member here parting out his z. I'll probably get in contact with him.

So, cats, exhaust, maf, intake, o2 sensors, manifolds, headers and remote the flash from osoris. Doesn't seem too complicated to me.. just pricey.

 

I have stock headers, resonated tp's, and stock cats depending on the route you want to go.

 

You should check too see if air is getting out of that fitting. It looks likeI the tube used to be in a lot more. you can get stock parts for cheap on craigslist or on the forum. For your ecu I would call z1 they can probably reflash to your needs. Im no expert but with a laptop and some research you could probably do it yourself with a laptop.

 

Find someone who will buy your parts. Make him pay for the uninstalling and take his OEM parts.

Is it me or is this OP's headache missing a strut bar? and where is the MAF?

 

I was going to say the same thing. Yuu can disconnect the intake piping before the maf and after the turbo to see if it fixes drive problems, but I don't see a MAF

 

Are you sure he needs new exhaust manifolds? This looks like a turbonetics rip off and the installer probably wasn't the kinda guy to do extra work. Maybe the stock manifolds are in place?
