New clutch, old flywheel
Hey guys
My car is an 08 with 90k on it. Today clutch pedal fell to the floor, and it was stuck in gear, luckily I was close to home and made it back slowly in 2nd.
Have a few questions
1. Clutch fluid in reservoir is just below minimum, I will raise car up tomorrow to inspect and see if I see where there is a leak, does that sound like it’s slave cylinder most likely? (or maybe damaged line?)
2. I read a few threads but no definite answer whether it’s ok to replace the clutch and slave cylinder but leave original flywheel on, if people did that please chime in on the iutcome( i will be getting a stock grade clutch, thinking luK)
3. Is it ok to replace solve cylinder with an OEM one or is it a good possibility that even new OEM ones already come with a manufacturers defect
Thank you you for your input.

Clutch pedal drop is hydraulic in nature. Could be master, could be slave.
In your case, most likely the concentric slave cylinder which is internal to the bell housing and a KNOWN problem on HR cars.
Don't recommend a replacement OEM unit as they - despite a recall and alleged "fix" to the problem - are still prone to the problem. I sold my '08 to a fellow member here and unfortunately, the slave took a cr*p not long after I sold it (and no, there were no indications of failure prior to my selling it so hush.... laff). That car had less than 35k on it when sold. Replaced with solution #1, below. (IIRC)
Two recommended solutions:
1. Heavy duty replacement:

2. And the newer solution converting the CSC to external slave:

I have used the HD replacement with success on my son's '07. His hadn't gone bad but replaced it since the clutch was being replaced and since it was all apart....
EDIT: OK to use a new clutch on original dual mass flywheel so long as the friction face is OK and can be cleaned up a little with emory cloth. But watch for heat spots (pretty obvious discoloration). You cannot resurface a dual mass flywheel. Tip there is if it needs replacement, go with a matching (to the clutch you're purchasing) single mass unit. Lower weight flywheel is optional there but I won't get into the light versus closer-to-OE weight argument. Plenty of threads on that around.
And while in there, check the pilot bushing and rear main seal for leaks. Replace as needed while it's apart!
