Question Limits on 08 350z

Hey I'm new to the Z platform as a whole so I'm sorry if my question are a little stupid. I'm just curious what are the power limits and the vq35hrs block and what should I actually push it to. Also does anyone know the limits on the stock automatic transmission for a 2008 350z.

The block is strong, but the rotating assy will need some work if you plan on serious power. What are your goals?
I don’t know about the trans.

I was hoping to get anywhere from 650-800hp and I know ill have to replace a lot of things with forged parts etc.. But I've heard the block can go handle those numbers safely I'm just not %100 sure so I'm here to double check.

Building another IG Draggy queen, and on a AT.....how original lol. Car will not grip with that power, you will need drag radials.

Yeah im doing some research currently on proper tire size ect. I just want to have a fun Z that has all the comfort of stock, while being able to be a fun 1/4 / 1/8 mile car

It is a basic build but that's somewhat of a good thing since I can get a lot of help and advice. (hopefully)

I was originally planning on going manual but im trying to weight my options I want to find out what the power limits are between the Auto and Manual transmissions to see which one is better off the gate

Manual has no limits realistically, auto does.
What is your concept of fun? Because for me a 300hp Z with a proper setup for the road will be way more fun than a car with a ton of power that can't get traction in gears 1-3 lol. Personally I think 450-550hp is max usable power on this platform, a properly setup drag car with that power level should break 10s.

Yeah ive heard of stock manuals going to 600+ but haven't heard of any autos so far so im searching. And man idk what's fun to me just the rush of driving ect lmao. Im most likely going to go for a manual just do to the "experience" of owning one

Lol, I was waiting for that. I have a dream of one day finishing my car....when I no longer had a car payment it would've happened sooner but then my DD got totalled by a minivan. At that point I chose to get a nicer, faster DD so now I must wait until I pay that off, it'll get done eventually. I don't regret it one bit.

In the neighborhood of 500 to 550hp is the limit of the HR. Nissan did a much better job with the bottom end (compared to the DE) but yuo will not see 600hp to 650hp on OEM rods/pistons.

Rods, Pistons, Head Studs,

With an autotransmission you’re severely limited and I would tell you to sell it and go find a 6mt DE and build that. The DE will have significantly more aftermarket parts, tuning solutions, and support compared to the HR.

If that’s a no-go than consider a VHR in a 370z / G37. The VHR in auto transmission will hit 500 to 550 and a manual can be taken well into 600hp on a stock block.

I'll never understand the ridiculous notion of wanting anything north of 650hp. The American way of let's have 800hp+ is a pissing contest at best since tires can't put that power to the ground.

It’s an arms race.

Social media has made it drastically and exponentially worse. Everyone sees the 2500hp GTR and thinks this is the new norm. Their VQ engine is at lease capable of 1000hp, with AC, is completely daily drivable, little to no maintenance, inexpensive parts, and you can beat on it every night on the streets.

Sorta sad when you see some a buddy put xyz thousands of dollars into a car to have it running at 600hp and then blow a $10 part in the heart of the engine due to abuse/neglect and it’s completely wasted. Or when you install a 500hp turbo kit on a car and the owner cant figure out a P0300 and the car sits.

That's true I guess, I think 800hp is what i heard from a GTR owner. Without getting too involved. I looked into the prices of GTR maintenance and I wouldn't say they are affordable, unless you are one of those guys who can buy a new one cash only to drop it off at AMS lol.
I think Nissan had it right with that statement about modern tires only being capable of holding 150hp each, to double that is silly.

650-800hp is no "basic build" whatsoever. To do it right and achieve this: "I just want to have a fun Z that has all the comfort of stock, while being able to be a fun 1/4 / 1/8 mile car" you are going to spend tens of thousands of dollars. Trust me, I've more or less pursued the exact same end state, but instead of a 1/4 mile car I want to be able to enjoy it on mountain roads and maybe an occasional track day.

Cheap, powerful, reliable; pick two.

here is the thing, the kid is 21... so 5-6 years driving experience and he thinks he can handle 650-800 hp?!?!?! my car is 533 whp and it will get squirrelly on you with a quickness. to get my car to that hp, it took about $10K total parts, install, and tune. unless he is bill gates relative or some spoiled rich kid... dreamer thread
