Unhappy 3rd Gear Tranny Problem!?!?!

I have only had my car since Dec. but my synchro's in my 3rd gear seemed to be going out! I have to let the rpm's drop below 2500 rpms in order not to get the horrific grinding. Is there a problem with '04 tranny's? I am not happy with this and will be taking it to get serviced today!

Yeah, I've had mine since 11/03, and the tranny just started grinding when downshifting from 4th to 3rd. Very annoying. Oh, yeah, I have 16K on it.

BTW, its offtopic, can anyone tell me, if I had the TSB for feathering done at 11K, and now it's back, will they still cover it or give me an excuse that its over 12K.

Thanks

Luke

Default 2nd gear grind.

Hey there. I have the second gear grind especially in the morning but now and again anytime when I'm driving. I have even been locked out of 2nd and 3rd when shifting at the higher RPR's which is quite embarrasing. I have taken it to my dealer and after taking it for a test drive the service manager told me that there was no problem with the tranny!?!? So he was basically calling me a liar I guess. I didn't drive my car during the winter months but now that I have it back on the road I have experienced the same 2nd gear grind on occasion! I'm taking it into service tomorrow and demanding the problem to be rectified. I'm also not happy with the sound of the stereo and gone as far as to replace the HU and front speakers with no success. Obviously the problem is the amp but my dealer says my car doesn't fall in the amp tsb catagory. ( Built 03/03 ) My mother and laws Matrix has a better sounding system than my 350Z which is pretty sad. I was thinking about buying an after market amp but why should I? We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Read my sig on my previous car. It had all the problems you were mentioning. My new car is not as bad.

Please post tranny issue on the repairing forum. There is a tread that has all the issues with tranny.

Welcome to ownership of the 350Z.

Mine has always grinded about once every two weeks in third gear. Just so you know, I have NEVER grinded any other gear but third (except 2nd once a couple days ago). The problem is getting worse, it happens about once every 2 days now. I have had the car for 1 1/2 years and have 17,000 miles.

At least a couple hundred people have had there tranny replaced, I have tried, with no luck. I just figure I will wait till it happens all the time, or I am at the point of getting a new car because of Nissan's crappy service....

Thankfully I havn't had this grinding tranny issue yet (4,400 miles on odometer) but very rarely I'll occasionally get locked out of being able to put it into first gear. Putting it into another gear then trying first usually solves the problem though.

welcome to the club. You should ask your Nissan dealer to replace your tranny. This is a common and known issue with ours cars.
