When I drive a manual, I usually don't downshift to 1st unless I'm stopped or going extremely slow. In the 5AT, I haven't really needed to go from 2nd to 1st because the transmission will default to 1st if you are stopped or going really slow.

I get the clunk sometimes in manual mode going from 3rd to 2nd. It usually happens if I am slowing down, shift to 2nd, then start accelerating again. I think but, I'm not sure, it has something to do with the shift algorithms. The 5AT is an adaptive transmission and is continually adjusting to the drivers style. If you are slowing down while shifting from 3rd to 2nd and continue slowing the system knows that you are most likely coming to a stop or entering traffic and smooths out the shift. If you are going from 3rd to 2nd and begin to accelerate or you enter a turn just after the shift, the system knows that you are most likely trying to do a performance manuever and will shift at the fastest possible speed. That clunk or jolt you feel is the transmission shifting really fast. This is not a problem.

Sequential shifters like the SMG and the F1 have the same type of clunk or jolt when you have it set to the fastest shift mode. In a sequential shifter you get rid of the jolt by setting it to a more conservative shift mode.

Excessive clunking or a whining sound or the transmission dropping out of gear frequently is a problem and should be checked out.

I have had ZERO problems so far with respect to getting funny sounds, b/w shitf or otherwise. Of course it is going to be jurk when yuo shift into shorter gears, but never any sounds. Maybe this is a Z thing...

I get the "jump" while shifting into reverse only when the car is parked on a "sloped" or downhill surface. other than that, its a cherry.

I don't get a "clunk" sound. It's more of a clunk feeling or a jolt sometimes.

I have a G Sedan and I notice sometimes when I'm cruising and I step on it the engine revs faster that the car is accelerating. Almost as if the trans was slipping. Anyone else feel this?
It's almost like the trans takes a few seconds to catch up with the engine.

If you have an automatic it is the transmission downshifting.

That's what I thought, just a period of time the trans takes to downshift. Just checking, though.
Thanks
