Default MTF drain plug type and size???

Hi all-I think this is an ez question:

I need to check the MTF level on my new Z but I need to buy the correct type and size bit for the MTF drain plug.

Does anyone know the following:

1. What is the star pattern (torx or hex)?
2. What is the size of the torx or hex bit?

I checked the service manual and the owners manual with no luck and I'm getting no where from the dealers...UGH !

Thanks much!!

All,

Apparently, this is not an easy question after all. I have 16 views of this post, unfortunately zero replies.

After calls to numerous dealers and even working with my salesman it is obvious.

Nissan does NOT want to give out the size of TORX bits for service items such as MTF. They do this on purpose to make the all mighty dollar and thwart self maintenece.

If anyone has any insight, please chime in.

Thanks !

What you want is a 10mm Hex Bit. I got a 3/8" drive one but you can also get one in a 1/2" drive if needed. I had to buy this too when I did my tranny and diff fluid change. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. The 10 mm hex bit was a perfect fit. I have 4000 miles on my Z and needed to check b/c I don't trust the factory fluid levels. This was a simple question the dealers refuse to provide an answer to hoping that I bring it in for their service.

Turns out I was at least 1/2 qt-3/4 qts low on the rear diff level. Amazing how the factory can get by w/ the bare minimums.

Thanks again.

Go to an auto parts stor and buy a full set of bits. You can buy a set os star or hex at AutoZone for about $15 each, I think. You may ise other sizes in the future so it will be money well spent.
