Default Borla Full System

I ust got a silverstone 350z roadster and I'm looking to put exhaust on it. I've read so many posts about it my eyes hurt, so don't tell me to search.

So far I plan on doing full Borla true dual meaning headers, high flow cats or test pipes and cat back. I know it has a lot of joints but what else can I do. I really don't like my options. Maybe I can have it welded togeather rather than clamped. How loud does test pipes or high flow cats make the car. It doesn't seem like exhaust alone does much. If I'm going to do this I want to do it right.

Why doesn't one company make all the componets. What's with so and so for this and so and so for that. You can put exhaust on a domestic car using one brand.

I can buy Nismo, I don't like that it's only one pipe.
Stillen is heavier than stock, not looking to add weight to the car.
Injen doesn't seen like high quality, though i could be wrong.
Greddy I can't find a lot on, no one has.
Fujitsubo I can't find a lot on, no one has.

( I'm gonna freak..... ahhhhhh! ) This one makes 2 more Hp/ but this one make 3 more pounds tourque, yeah well this one's 1 lb lighter... blah blah

No b/s which is better and why. I want to save weight, gain hp, and avoid it sounding like a kazoo riding down the road. Where in Nj r surrounding area can I get this done at a good price? Who will install or make test pipes? Please help... provide names and phone numbers if possible.

Also intakes, jwt pop charger or injen and why. I heard the Injen can get water in it. Why not simply install a K+N into the stock box and be done with it. How much more cold air do they really provide.

I have the full Borla system and have nothing bad to say about it. IMO, don't listen to all the Borla haters out there, and there are quite a few who seem to associate Borla with the domestic muscle cars and spew hate in abundance. Anyway, the clamps that Borla gives you are very high quality, and I have not seen, in five months, any sign of leakage. And let's be realistic, that would really be the only reason to weld, unless you were racing and looking to save the two pounds the clamps weigh. My only advice is to have someone backweld the header flange to reduce the risk that one of the header pipes might come loose at the flange.

The Borla dual system is OK. I designed my fabricated dual after it. Their headers, IMO, are not the hot set-up. Get either Nismo or Crawford. Both cost quit a bit more than Borla, but they are worth it. My nod goes to Crawford. HiFlow Cats, again, go with Crawford.

I have a Borla True Dual system. The system was clamped and spot welded when installed. I noticed quite a bit of carbon near the joints when I had my DC Sport headers installed. I consider this a problem.

I have the Borla and like it... Use the clamps they send you, works fine and no need to spot weld. I also had big trq gains with the Borla headers, some 14+trq in the mid range - but just a few HP gain up top. The Nismo and Crawford give you more HP gains up top, but don't give the midrange trq that the Borla does...

You can get the Borla Header/Exhaust combo from ConceptZPerformance.com for $1190.

They sell the Headers alone for $609 and the exhaust for $789. So thats some good savings.

Come on guys keep it coming. Let's hear from some Stillen guys or some Nismo guys. What's up with the single pipe vs. true dual? Isn't dual going to flow more air volume?
- Has anyone commented on the intake systems vs. K+N for stock air box, anyone seen water injestion from CAI's?
- HP and Tourque gains from Borla?
- What about the volume how loud are test pipes vs. high flow cats?

"Injen doesn't seen like high quality, though i could be wrong."

indeed you are, for one, injen uses 4 total peices, all connected by flanges, considered superior to borlas ~15 peices connected with flanges(leaks are a problem with their setup).

polished piping ALL the way through, only one that does this I beleive.

machine welds that are absolutely perfect.

not that its the "best" exhaust or anything(though I like to think so. ) but its quality is certainly not its fault. if anything Id say that is borlas fault if I had to find it one.

edit, the straight tip is 6 peices, not 4. still not bad. and still flanges.

If injen is such high quality why is it so cheap compared to the others? I appreciate your opinion but again no hp increase, no tourque specs, no dyno sheet, no weight savings to back up your opinion. Are you going on looks and sound alone? I can deal with a few more joints if the performance is better.... I can deal with the joints if they are going to be welded anyway and not clamped... they also make headers which like I mentioned earlier i like to stick with one company and not mix and match. Does Injen make headers or test pipes/hfc's?

This is the difficult part on all the posts and forums everyone says this is better or that is better but no one back it up with specifics... just opinions... help me out guys need some hard fact and shootout type infomration...

Lookin4myz, borla headers are known not to produce any power. If you are going to go with one company I would sugest going with nismo. Since their exahust and headers produce power.

for an N/A car... I would go Nismo headers, test pipes, Nismo catback... that would kick a$$ (but also kick your pocketbook's a$$)

Default The best equipment for this car will come from Nismo.....

Why?....It's simple....Nismo IS Nissan. They have access to all the info that Nissan does when designing this vehicle...even the ECU programming. This is a huge advantage for them and why you can expect true gains with Nismo products. Cost, is the only reason these products are not on the vehicle to begin with. I know from my previous experience tuning Audis, that there were two manufacurers that had direct information from Audi and their products were clearly superior. They do charge more, but it's a sure bet that you'll get what you pay for. With regards to the issue of a "true dual", the real issue is resistance to flow. A proper diameter single pipe can do just as well if not better, as the greatest resistance to flow will be near the exhaust walls, where gas temps will be the coolest and friction the greatest.

the complete borla setup is not the best but they are not the worst either personally I am pleased with the results and quality.

my vote (if you are never going to turbo)

crawford headers
random tech/ultimate racing/crawford cats
borla exhaust

if you think you may go turbo dont do headers (you will get an exhaust manifold with a turbo kit) and get the greddy exhaust.

nismo doesnt know how to make a better exhaust, wait, I take that back. your correct. they do have access to stuff others dont, but chances are around 0 that they actually considered it at all. they just made an exhaust.

as for injen. its 48lbs(borla is 50lbs). hp depends what test you look at. they all vary as to the details. one showed it .5hp behind borla, and 3ft/lbs ahead. others showed different results. nismo is always a good bit behind on power gains, as it is not true dual at all, its not too far off of stock infact. as far as I knew, it was made by a company "weldina" or something.

Well, are we talk about NISMO Japan or Nismo USA products? they are different you know. Just take CAI as example, NISMO Japan dones't use CAI. And I don't think there is NISMO ECU for US spec Z yet (correct me if I am wrong), but there is NISMO ECU for Japan Spec Z.

IF you want a true Dual, I will get the one from Greddy, why?? the quality of Greddy is unmatched. And talk about access to factory information, Greddy's parent company, "TRUST," been working on Nissans and other high performance Japanese cars way before there is Injen, or borla, DC, or Stillen. Not to mentioned they provide lots of Racing parts for lots of Racing Team in Japan including manufacture racing team. They definately has access to Factory info. Not to mentioned Greddy and Greddy products has been into lots of major INTERNATIONAL race, inlcuding Le Man, and JGTC. I wondere where the Injen and borla is. Stillen was supported by nissan and Nismo when he was in IMSA, so that doesnt' really count.

Now, back to single pipe question. I don't know if any of you guys noticed this, but it's seems like lots of Z race cars and tunner's Z in Japan actually useing big single pipe and single canistier with single tip exhaust. The one that has same design as the Greddy full Titanium racing exhaust. Maybe true dual is not that superior after all. Plus, True dual mean heavier, because an extra piping. I am very curious on this.

So far I think most people believed that borla makes the horsepower is because when you compare it to Injen and stillen. However, I don't blame them cuz those are the only three that people have dyno sheets for it to compare so far. The Greddy evo has been dynoed on a FI but not NA. Hope, someone can provide the dyno sheet of Greddy, Fujitsubo, and all others.

I doubt anyone is using any insider info to make an exhaust... Id love to beleive it, but I think it was a trial and error, and 90% of their trying was to get a pleasing sound; hopefully good sound means good flow means good HP. and let the chips lie as they may after that. this is just a pipe and a off the shelf muffler that happened to produce the right sound.

Where can i go, meaning what sites, have info on Greddy? What kind of cost is involved? Do they make headers and test pipes as well?
