Default JWT cam installed

Ok i finished a 14 hour cam install today, and boy was it time consuming. My only question for you members with the JWT cams is it ok for me to drive my car for a few days? Until i send my ecu out to get tuned and have the idle raised.

Thanks Glen

You can if you don't mind stalling out.

I've been driving around with mine for over 3 weeks now. The trick I've learned is when coming to a stop, keep the car in 2nd until about 1k rpms. Then just when you're about to stall, throw in the clutch.

Even with that said, you're in danger of stalling at any time you're not in gear.

Good luck.

You feel a great increase in power, but at the lower rpms you can feel a little bit of loss. Im sure once i get my reflash i will notice a huge difference.

Also my auto is not stalling out on me, but i try to keep the rpms higher so it doesnt.

Thanks Glen

Have you tried turning the AC on when you are stopping? That will raise the RPMs a little.

I didn't have a problem with my 5AT wanting to stall either, but I had the idle rpms increased anyway the same day of the install. The ECU reflash will help down low with the Throttle issues being resolved. Hopefully you can get your timing and A/F right the first time out. I had some issues with my car and TS. I think I am good to go now, just need to get back on a Dyno sometime. I don't think you will have a problem without the reflash, but not all cars are the same so having your A/F checked would be wise.

Has anyone dyno'd these before/after?

If so, can you link me to the graphs please?

I will dyno asap once my ecu comes back from technosquare. I want to make sure my AF is good once it does get tuned.

Thanks Glen

Cool, any chance you did a pre-cams dyno?

Yes i did but i needed a reflash also. So before i sent out for the reflash i installed my JWT cams let it run for a day, and sent my ecu out today so they can raise the idle also. With all my mods listed i had 255 wheel hp, but my car was running some what lean a 14 af through most of the rpms. Not sure what it was running once the cams were put in, but technosqaure is going to make some adjsutments. If they dont get it right this time the next dyno should solve it. Once i get them the af readings with the cams in and their reflash. They can see were the final adjsutments may be needed.

Thanks Glen

zmego...i am pretty suprised that your not running higher than 255 with your mods...currently i am running 243 with plenum, popcharge, and AAM (technosquare ecu reflash)....i cant wait till i drop an exhaust on the car and headers...i hoping to be over 260 with just those mods...and once i get cams i plan on adding atleast 30 whp....im just wondering how many miles are on your Z?

It was because of my air fuel ratio i was in the 14s all the way through the power band. That means my car was running lean once i fix that my car will have more power. My ecu is currently at technosqaure their gonna program my ecu for all my mods. When their done i should have alot more power. My stock dyno was rather high i had 240 at the wheels, but with all my mods my ecu could not make up for all that. Thats why my car was running lean. I will keep you all posted once i get a dyno after the reflash is complete. I only have 15,000 on my z and i run mobile one.

Thanks Glen

I went with the NISMO camshafts on my 6 speed and had the idle raised using the OBD II at the dealership, raised mine to 900 and everything is fine now, no re-flash needed. My dyno was 272 rwhp and 247 rwt. I know the AT are different but the dealer can raise your idle with the OBD II. Good luck

The current reflash doesn't work on the 04.5 ECU (or LEV ECU). TS posted that they should have a reflash for the 04.5 ECU out later this month.

Jason@Performance says that Nissan is coming out with a new software component that should allow the dealers to up the idle on the '04.5 ECU. However still no word on when.

My car is currently down in San Diego at the Jim Wolf facility. They ran a small air bypass on my throttle that they claim has eliminated the stalling. I should pick the car up later this week.

Wish me luck!

How did the car pull with the new cams? Do you have any numbers?

No numbers, but the car screams after about 4K rpms. I love it.

I did loose a little torque on the low end, but the trade off was worth it.

when you all say it "screams after about 4k rpms" do you mean its louder or it pulls harder after 4k??? i am looking to get the JWT cams also...i love JWT and there products...i dont think i am going to mind the loss in a alittle torque in the low end of the power band...

also if its not too much could one of you JWT cams guys take a video of the car during idle and then do some blow bys? if possible i would really appreciate it...i would love to hear these suckers working there magic at idle and through the revs if you all could... thanks

I have the JWT cams and just got my ecu back from technosqaure and im very happy. My car pulls hard as hell throughout all the rpms. Im gonna dyno next week and post my results. I will check the AF just incase i may need a little more tuning, but technosqaure made a huge difference for all my mods listed.

Thanks Glen
