Really not much to know about. The center of the shock has a nylon bushing to absorb shock. My guess is that all of them would wear out over time and need replacement. They are length adjustable so you can pick your mounting points. That's about all there is to them.

I mounted mine to a manifold bolt on the engine and to the strut tower bolt. At first I had it bolted to one of the power steering resevoir bolts, but It started to get a little tweaked. You have to be kind of creative with your mounting points because most of them are generic.

Here's a pic of the ebay special. The color matches the rest of the aluminum bits in the engine compartment which is kind of nice. Not a 350 though. My baby is in the shop getting the Titlon put in or I would post one of mine.

So what's the current story on replacement engine mounts? Is anyone making them for the 350Z yet? I'm not looking for anything super stiff, but it might be nice to have something a little stiffer than these fluid-filled softies.

The only thing I found was at 350EVO. They have a solid trans mount. You could check with them about motor mounts.

interesting zillinois - I put my 5 Zigen one there too, though I have so far been able to use the resevoir bolt.

My friend works at a shop here in town, and he says he'd be able to make me some replacement motor mounts if I can give him the measurements of the oem pieces. I believe he said he could use Delrin for the mounts. Do you all think these might be too stiff for a daily driver? I'm not terribly familiar with Delrin as a material, nor how it would compare to the stock mounts in stiffness.

In the meantime, I do have a Stillen engine damper on the way, so hopefully that'll help until I can figure out the engine mount issue. (I swear they must be blown, since I definitely did not have this much driveline lash when I first got the car.)

But I think you might be a bit more hardcore than me. You don't think the Delrin would be too stiff for a daily driver?

I think it would introduce more cabin vibration. But probably no more so than a torque dampner. I actually found that the torque damper made my driving experience more pleasureable.

I did a google search for Delrin and found that lots of aftermarket motor mounts are made out of the stuff. I certainly won't be as quiet as our stock mounts, but not having the shifter thrash around would be nice too. It'd be worth a try if it was not too expensive.

I have the Stillen torque damper sitting in my living room right now. Will install it tomorrow and see how things go. If it still feels goofy, then maybe I'll have my friend whip up some Delrin motor mounts and see what happens. If they're too hard, I can always put the stock pieces back on.

Hehe, I posted a full review in a different thread after I installed the thing. Basically, it's great. It dramatically reduced driveline lash. Very worthy mod. The only drawback was during the installation. One of the brackets Stillen supplied had bolt holes that were very slightly off center. We had to file out the holes a little bit so they'd perfectly line up with the holes in the frame to which you are bolting the bracket.

I don't have the link to the review I posted, but let me use the search function and find it.

Driveline lash occurs when you have soft, mushy engine mounts and they let the engine move around quite a bit. Although those soft mounts are there to soak up some of the engine vibration, that engine movement can be very annoying in certain situations. An engine torque damper helps eliminate some of that movement. Another option is getting stiffer engine mounts. Stiffer engine mounts, though, tend to transmit more vibration into the cabin than a torque damper.

Replacing motor mounts isn't too bad of a job, depending on the car. I believe there are two motor mounts on the 350Z's engine, and when I've had the car up on a lift they appear to be fairly easily replaceable. I haven't actually tried it, though, or looked it up in the service manual. It could be difficult for all I know.

The torque damper is a fairly easy install, though.

i mean, u have to lift out the engine, then change the mounts then put the engine back in right.

Nah, I'm pretty sure the engine mounts can be replaced without removing the engine. I believe you just have to pull up on the engine and support it somehow (to take the pressure off the mounts).
