DIY- HKS Knock off Rusted looking tips.
Hey kids,
got an HKS knock off? Is your tip looking like a 240z thats been living in Seattle for all of it's life? Well here is what to do.
This will save you money from buying other tips to replace them like the Topspeed tips ($100) or buy some real HKS tips and claim you have a real one. Now come on you bought a knockoff just might as well embrace it.
Any ways this will fix your tip problems for less than $10.
Tools:
800 grit wetordry sandpaper
1000 grit wetordry
2000 grit wetordry
Metal polish
An old T shirt or a microfiber cloth
Start off by removing and wiping the tips down to get them clean. Now take the 800 grit and starts sanding by going in soft circles around the rust spots. Dont put too much pressure you just want to scuff them up to make the tips dull looking. Go around it twice to get some missed spots.
Next take the 1000 and go the opposite way in semi circles. Give them a bit more pressure to smooth out some of the scratches. Make sure you are getting most of the titanium coloring off, if you leave a bit that is still visible without close inspection it will leave a ring once you polish it. So again just go over it twice to make sure.
Now take the 2000 and just rub it all around the tip. What I did was just put it between the tips and my hand then rotate the tip to smooth out the tips completely. Dont stop until its just look like dull metal then wipe the tips clean to inspect for any left over coloring or any scratches. If there is just use the 2000 to smooth it all out.
Finally take the tips, clean it well first, and apply the polish to it. Take your time and get the polish on there good. I polished mine with Mothers Mag Polish. Just lather it on, rub it in, wipe it off and look it over.
Eventually it just shines and the ugly rusty looking titanium tips are now just regular clean polished tips.

It's a knock off so I knew what I was getting myself into. Just making it work for me without spending more money on it.
