Default Larger Oil Filter for the Z

For anyone who wants a bigger oil filter for their Z:

I've always thought the OEM size oil filter for the Z was very small. Seemed more appropriate for a motorcycle than a car... So I've been looking around for a larger oil filter that will work on the Z. I found that the Nissan Armada oil filter fits nicely and has approximately 20% more filtering capacity.

The K&N HP-1008 is the OEM size oil filter. It's the upper-most one in the pic.
The K&N HP-1010 is the one for the Nissan Armada. It's the bottom one in the pic.

yeah, i always use the k+n one and thought it was small. The filter on my integra is bigger. Have you tried it on your car with no leaks? Threads in just as smooth as the 1008?

Seals perfectly. No leaks. Oil pressure is also the same with the larger one.

I also bought the OEM sized filter just in case the Armada filter didn't fit. I guess I'll be taking the OEM sized one back to exchange for another Armada filter. :-)

I always thought the Z's filter was tiny also. I've never owned a car with one so small. I doubt it's filtering capacity is inadequate, however.

it's probably the same performance but it couldn't hurt. I'm guessing you have to buy one extra bottle of oil though to get a little more oil in there which would cost more at the end.

Did you check the bypass valve pressure rating? Are they the same between the filters?

it is the filter for the M45 or FX45 engines. That's what I have always run. I prefer the NAPA Gold (Wix) filters though.

I think the oem filters are a little small but the car only uses 5qts oil. My 95 Benz C36 AMG uses a fleece filter which is 2x bigger but uses 7.9qts oil.

the bigger filters for similarly sized motors will work, but no real purpose to them. Better to find the filter with the best filtration properties for the type of driving/oil you run, vs one that holds an extra ounce or 2 of oil

because, a lot of people buy a cheap oil filter, but get the one that holds more oil in it for a "piece of mind"... I myself though perfer just to go with mobil1 5w30 and a quality mobil1 m1-108 filter. Cant go wrong, gotta figure, mobil1 expected people to use their filter with their oil.

Only my opinion, but I am pretty sure the Japanese did their homework. This filter is what they found would worked best. Are the 07's the same? Just my 2 cents.

car manufacturers make mistakes all the time. Ever heard of TSBs?

also, the Japanese did their homework with Pearl HArbor, but that was there biggest mistake of WWII.

When I changed the oil in the Z about a month ago the Nissan filter is now made in China. It was made in Japan. So I went with the Mobil 1 filter.
