Question Info on European Countrys

Im an American that has for some time been considering moving overseas-- Im at the point now that I am liquidating smaller assets and will be putting on the market larger ones towards the end. I have strongly considered New Zealand but am open to ideas. Prefer a neutral country that tolerates Americans, has a lower population, a fair goverment, and one that prioritizes its citizens. I dont care for citys cept to visit occasionally, I prefer country living and wilderness. I have to consider cost of living and the ability to buy property without being taxed to death. Norway seems interesting as does Iceland but am a little naive about differant areas and the best info comes from people living in a particular country. Im kinda of an old hell raiser thats lived all over the US and has mellowed through the years and wanting to settle somewhere peaceful. Many Thanks !!!!!!

BTW ---- This is not a snap desision, I have been kicking this move around for 10 years

If you don't like taxes, i'd stay far away from Germany then... they're pretty ridiculous. Though, the autobahn is hard to beat w/ a Z (most other countries have max speeds on their highways). That and bavaria is pretty much wilderness (if you're not near Munich) -- i'm on the edge of a 100 km^2 park.

One thing you'll find about this place compared to the US is that every square meter of the country is planned and controlled (i.e. parks are more like zoos, there is no "real" wilderness like the US west).

The differences are nice, but i can't wait to get back to the US in three years

Thanks for the reply --I been all over the US and really dont have any ties as far as family. Just close friends ---Been self employed most my life so dont exactly have a retirement package, Just land holdings in a sellers market. I have to think none the less about cost of living etc. Iv never been afraid of changes but advice is helpful in a big change like this. What Id like to do is settle somewhere that fits my needs and travel to places from there.
Have reached a point that I dont have to have too much as far as materialistic needs. Well --cept my Machines !!! Otherwise, Im content in a log cabin in the wilderness with a good dog and good neighbors 5 or 10 miles away.
