Chris Forsberg takes 2nd Place in Championship, Tires.com Triple Crown and Voted Driver of the Year

IRWINDALE, CA (Oct. 17, 2007) – It’s not often that the runner-up has the largest smile at the race track. In Chris Forsberg’s case, his first place finish in the Formula Drift Tires.com Triple Crown left his grin a mile-wide.

The chance of rain didn’t keep away the huge crowd with possibly the largest turnout in drifting history on hand to view this monumental event. Forsberg qualified 2nd overall behind Formula Drift points leader Tanner Foust and beat out Rockstar Energy Drink sponsored driver Daijiro (Dai) Yoshihara who qualified 8th. By out qualifying Yoshihara, Forsberg took over 2nd place in the championship going into the tandem runs.

Forsberg proceeded to knockout John Russakoff and Bill Sherman to get to the Final 4 round where he was matched up against Yoshihara in his Rockstar Energy Drink Nissan 240SX (S15). Both drivers had been setting some of the highest speeds and deepest angles all night. Fans were on their feet as the drivers went off for their first set of runs. Both drivers made slight errors causing the judges to call for a “one more time”. The next set of runs were flawless for Forsberg but Yoshihara made a fatal error giving Forsberg the win and 2nd Place in the Championship. “Dai has always been a great friend and competitor since day one.” Said Forsberg, “We were both thrilled to be battling for 2nd place in the championship once again. After one of the most intense battles of the year, we moved on to the finals at Irwindale and earned our 2nd place in the championship.”

In the Final round, Forsberg went up against Tanner Foust who had already locked in the Championship but was looking for his first win of the season. Both 350Z’s were on point but a slight correction by Forsberg on the bank was just enough to give tanner the overall victory and Forsberg the runner-up finish.

The 2nd place finish for Forsberg was enough to clinch 1st place in the prestigious Tires.com Triple Crown, a separate point standing encompassing the Formula Drift events at Atlanta, Sonoma, and Irwindale.

In addition to the Triple Crown, Forsberg was voted Driver of the Year and the Hardest Charger by his fellow competitors at the Formula Drift Championship Banquet. Forsberg’s crew chief, Kevin Wells, was named Mechanic of the Year, and Forsberg’s heated season-long competition with Formula Drift champion Tanner Foust was deemed Rivalry of the Year.

The 2007 race season was a banner year for the team, “This was pretty much a perfect year for Chris Forsberg Racing.” said Forsberg, “After announcing that we would run our own team for the 2007 season we got great support from Maxxis Tire and NOS Energy Drink. With their help we were able to show our ability to run a seriously competitive drift team. I look forward to announcing our bigger and better program at this year’s SEMA Show.”
