Default For those interested in underbody lighting...

For those who have no interest in underbody lighting (or think it's rice), but can't seem to stay away from replying regardless, I've included the last option in the poll just for you...

To those who ARE interested in underbody lighting kits and do NOT consider them rice (be it on the Z or any other car)... My full-featured underbody kit is still in development, but I would like to get your opinion on something.

I'm considering offering a very basic kit... no flashy patterns, no color changing, just a simple single color kit with very bright LEDs. The typical LED kits out there have weak LEDs in them, and I can offer something significantly brighter. The typical single-color underbody kit with two 48" tubes and two 36" tubes is generally in the $100-$150 range.

So, my question to you guys is this: If you were in the market for an LED underbody kit, would you pay a small amount extra (let's say another 10%) if the higher priced kit had significantly brighter LEDs?

I have otix by streetglow.. it's not bright at all.. maybe cuz the same bulbs's share 7 colors? I paid around 180ish but they're going for $150 now. I hate the fact that people label undercar light as ricers.. my car's tastfully done and will soon have power to back up the looks.

That was my main reason for asking. The typical kit out there is not bright at all, and I could put something quality together very quickly if it was simplistic in design. I didn't know if people really cared about patterns, but if it turns out they do, I'll just forget about the simple kit and wait until the big one is ready to go.

At least the LED kit would have the standard advantage over neons for toughness, lifetime, etc.

you should hit up the forum on the streetglow.com. You'll get a better insight of what people are looking for. I think it'll be nice to have a bright *** 7 color kit, that I can control the dimmness (like my otix kit), but I think people care more about the brightness.. I was disappointed at how dim my streetglow was.

if you want a led system that is in my opinion the best is the scanning varad system.... not only is it unltra low profile so u dont have to worry about clearance but also they arent tubes they are flat and alot more durable than liteglow and streetglow... you even get lucky to get a scanning, pulsing, strobe feature with small module for controlling. check it out

Price should be in the range of $100 to $125 max if you want to beat the market.

I'm not looking to create the best system (that will come later with my current prototype system), I'm merely looking for something to fill in at the low end of the spectrum until my larger kit is ready for market. There's obviously a market for single color, no pattern systems as you see them for sale by a number of companies. I can create a significantly brighter kit than the el-cheapo kits out there, but I won't be able to price it at the $55 price point some of the cheap e-Bay kits go for (They claim the kit is only $10, then charge $40 for shipping, plus an additional not-optional $5 for insurance).

I will also consider offering short tubes for the smaller jobs.

thanks, its a audiobahn 7" screen. I got it from circuit city for about $275. I got it hookup though the ps2, and the audiobahn mp3/dvd/cdplayer. What kind of underglow kit you got? I just upgraded to wireless so I can turn it on and off/color/and settings through my remote. I usually keep one remote in my car to turn on in the car, and then one on my keychain to do it from outside. Its pretty neat, its suppose to have a range of 500ft.

the monitor was $275 and $40 to install so total was $315 I guess. So if you get a dvd player or something with that also the installation price is going to be the same. The good thing about circuit city is that if you ever have anything install there it comes with a warrenty so if something with the wiring or anything messes up they will cover it. I hav not had any problems with it, they did a good job mounting it also.
