How much is the weight difference between CF hood and stock hood?

Your sig says you have a VIS CF hood...VIS uses pretty cheap methods of making their carbon fiber hoods and it is most likely a fiberglass or carbon fiber hood with a carbon layer on the outside. Another method is using a fiberglass or metal frame and using the carbon fiber as the entire outer "sheet." Either way, the VIS hood is not the pinnacle of weight saving carbon hoods for the Z. (not to mention every VIS hood i've ever seen has had fitment/quality issues) I doubt it saves 6-8lbs. Anyhow, my point is there probably isn't alot of weight saving if you're comparing the stock hood to a cheapie carbon hood though I suspect most of the JDM hoods save you about 7lbs.
The varis hood is a good example:

Then there is also the issue of dry carbon hoods, you'de definatly see the difference in weight with one of those. (though the price is about double of that of a wet carbon hood) I believe Powerhouse Amuse makes one as well as dry carbon fenders, hatch, etc.
Someone should create a carbon fiberhood weight thread. I'm sure that alot of the JDM carbon fiber hoods are much lighter than stock. Actually, we should make a carbon hood thread period....there are so many different designs, weights, quality and prices....
My hood is for a Prelude. My stock hood was made of steel and weighs 48 lbs versus 18 lbs for the VIS. I never in my post stated that VIS was the "Pinnacle" of CF hoods. It, however, worked for me. It had and continues to have great fitment and finish.
The statement about saving 6-8 lbs was taken from a thread on either this forum or 350zmotoring. I remember it saying that the stock Z hood weighed in around 24 lbs and the CF hood weighed about 16-18 lbs. What CF hood that was, I do not recall.
Yes, perhaps the dry carbon weighs even less, but I doubt many people want to pay the $$ Amuse is asking for those parts. Unless your building an *****-to-the-wall racecar, those parts are completely uneccessary. There are, from what I've read, better ways to shed weight, i.e. lightweight rims, battery, flywheel, clutch, etc.
But you probably already knew that.
