Default Trunk shocks problem, solution?

I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered a problem with their trunk hatch being able to support itself after the application of an aftermarket spoiler. If so what was your solution to this problem. I understand there are High strength shocks out there but any idea on their pricing? Thanks for the help.

Take it to the dealer. I believe there is a TSB out on this issue. Regardless they should be replaced under warranty.

or...you can do the .04 fix & place 2 pennies at the bottom of each rubber coil cover of your hatch . Now if you installed a monster of a spoiler, then this trick may not work. Good luck!

Isn't there some sort of weight under the hatch? You can get to it after removing the plastic liner. I thought i read on these forums before of some ppl removing it after installing a new spoiler. Sorry if there's not such thing but i'm certain i read it.

Just wait, Nissan is going to release a higher powered gas stay to support the NISMO wing.

Well that's the wing i have but is this new released poridyct going to be at consumer cost. Did they not anticipate that maybe some of their consumers would buy their own aftermarket wing and take that in to account during construction. I don't know, i could see if i dropped a park bench on the trunk with pigeons and all i wouldnt be able to expect miracles but the Nismo wing itself isnt all that heavy and i almost got knocked out by the trunk the other day lol.

The higher power shocks for the rear deck have been out for quite a while, they are called the NISMO Rear Hatch Gas Shocks High Strength [KITZ33RHS] you can see them at Performance nissan parts at the below link:

http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...oducts_id=1429

Maybe a new, cheaper design is forthcoming? I know that I will not buy at this price.
$229.00, wish someone would find the aftermarket heavy duty ones that would fit.

I found this on a quick web search, look at the price. Free shipping also. I am really thinking about taking one off my car, and going to pep boys, auto zone, etc, and find a set of heavy duties that fit. Even $50 a piece is ok, that $229 for a set is outrageous.

Part Name Hatch Strut
Automobile Nissan 350Z
Catalog No. O2070-64678/STB
Description Left & Right For Worldpac Toyota PUP Fleet Camper Shells

OEM Price $29.26
Discount/Sale Price $16.95

I emailed a Canandian firm that specializes in hatch lift repairs, etc. I sent this enquiry:
I have a 2003 Nissan 350Z, that came with a small spoiler. The hatch only functioned well in warm weather, if it got cold, the hatch would not stay open. Since then, I have added a heavier spoiler, and it will barely stay open in any weather. Can you recommend a solution, or do you sell a heavy duty replacement for the stock OEM struts? Nissan NISMO has a heavy duty set, but they want $229 USD, which seems quite a bit too much.

I got this responce right away:

Hello Patrick.
Yes the OEM struts are expensive as local Nissan dealers use my services here for various Nissan models.
Ok answer to your question yes I can help you there as I helped an owner last year with the similar problem as it is a fairly heavy hatch even standard.
The cost for the pair Patrick is $80 Canadian& we have 1 tax& postage is generally around $8 to $10.
They are complete with ball ends& mounting ***** ready to install.
You will certainly notice the difference they are a good quality strut& I warranty the product for 3yrs but will last a lot longer than that.Just let me know Patrick if you have any queries the 350Z are a nice car(as I'm a Kiwi) from New Zealand I have a friend who has a twin turbo (tweaked) a proper rocket.
Cheers Patrick,
Frank Irvine,
Strutwise.

As for me, I am in the process of ordering from him. Finally, someone who knows something and has a fix.
webpage where I found him:

If anyone wants to wait, I am ordering today, will inform how they worked out for me, I have a NISMO replica fiberglass spoiler.

I still think this is the "cheapest" & "easiest" solution if you want a "quick" fix.

be careful if you do the 2 penny and furniture pad fix. My wing isn't that heavy, but with both of these fixes, it pushed the small plastic end of the spring into the hatch body and put a small dent in my hatch. How much are carbon hatches??? Might be time to replace it since painting and fixing this small dent will probably be the same cost as buying a carbon hatch.

I already removed it, but accidently closed the hatch a little harder then i would like. I was closing it from the top and it got away and slammed shut, that was enough to put the dent in my hatch.

I have a Veilside 1 wing that heavy as hell with the shock issue. I have already removed the weight and it didn't help at all. I still have to hold the trunk open with my head. The Nismo struts are outrageously expensive and I'm not paying $250 for something that should cost 100

I ordered from strutwise. $80 Canadian plus shipping. I will post when I get them. He said they are much stronger than stock and a direct bolt on.

When i removed the weight for my ings replica, it helped a bit, it stays open long enuf for me to get stuff out rather than slamming down right away. But i think i'm gonna try the new shocks that gringott ordered later on too.
