Default Clear Coat????

hey guys well one of my friends works for a body shop and they told him he can borrow the paint booth for any side jobs he may want to do (he is very good friends with the owner) and i asked him about re-clearing the whole car and he said he would throw 6 coats of clear for 1600 dollars so what do you guys think.

remember i have a super black so it would always look "wet" which would be awsome.

That sounds really steep to me. Youd have to tell me what kind of clear he was using tho.

Depends, i personally like using PPG's dcd35 clear.

Basically, to re clear the car, he will be sanding your existing clear down, then adding a few wet coats of clear on there. Ur car only needs around 3 coats of clear, i dont really understand why 6 would make it glossier, he will be wetsanding it then buffing it out.

Im not sure, 1600 just sounds expensive to me, you could get an entire body kit prepped and painted for that cost, why dont u just spend the money on a kit?

that cheap. When you have the entire car clear coat again, that is the same as you paint your whole car. I was quoted few grands for it.

i was under the same impression he said its the same amount of work cause he has to mask the whole car like if he were painting it , and plus he is wet sanding after every coat (does that make a difference) oh yeah he said he is using ppg clear.

a good body shop will take every piece out and do the clear coat on each part. The labor add up all the cost.
