US nismo spoiler... HELP...
just installed my new US nismo spoiler... everything was smooth until i had to tighten the nuts and bolts. to make a long story short. i punched a hole through the base of my spoiler. it was the center bolt (about 4mm). so its right in the middle. i tightend too much and the bolt came straight up. now i have to find a way to cover the hole. for now i just used a small plug my friend had for his s2000. the ones used to cover the front license plate holes. his car is about the same color as mine. so it looks ok. but it kills me.... to others it might look like its part of the spoiler. to me... its used to cover up a HOLE. now i'm wondering... is it worth it to take the spoiler off and have the base sanded and painted again?? around 80 bucks i think? i talked with the body shop manager. he's afraid the double sided tape thats on the spoiler might rip the paint of the car itself. he said he'd have to talk with his paint guys to make sure. but is there a way to take the thing off without messin up the paint? the thing is bonded really well. i was also wondering if there were any other quick fixes that might do, but using touch up paint on a hole that big would make things worse in my opinon. has this happened to anyone else?? any advice would be greatly apprecitated. thanks in advance.
double sided tape should not rip your paint off. i took off my stock spoiler as carefully as I could. first i used dental floss to saw the tape in half between the body and the spoiler. then undid my bolts. after the spoiler was then off, the tape is the hardest part and requires the most patience ever. do not use anything hard enough to scratch your paint. i used some mineral spirts to soften the tape and let it sit on the tape for a while. then using a small plastic scrape tool i took my time on getting it off.
the mineral sprits didn't ruin my paint at all. i know it stripped my wax but big deal. patience is the hardest part. i'd just try it myself, a shop could mess it up!
as for the holes...might want to get it repainted. me personally, i couldn't live with the fact there are bumper plugs covering up a hole on my spoiler.
