Why not just hold out and get one in the color you want?

um, maybe he/she found a used one that is perfect in every way except for color? that said, i would change the factory paint unless needed, but if you must i wouldn't spend less than 3-4k on a paint job..... the orange is ugly at first but i think it will grow on you, and its the second rarest color next to the ugly purple

Repainting a new car is stupid. First off, to do it right will cost thousands. You don't want to leave the engine bay, door and hatch openings the old colors. Everything will have to be stripped off the car so the body can be painted in and out. If you don't, when you try to sell or trade the car, somebody will spot that it has been repainted and think it was wrecked.

You could use those $$$ to travel to any other city across the country and pick up a Z fron another dealer.

Any dealer has the ability to check the stock of dealers all over the country. They can find one in the color you like, then trade for it. If they're not willing to do that, find another dealer who will. If that's not an option, go to the Nissan site and use it yourself to look at the stock of dealers in other cities. All you need is a zip code from another city to search dealers within 100 miles of it.

AND when you get it back, it will be filled with fine dust from being in a body shop for two weeks. I have read a lot of stupid stuff on this site, this idea is this year's winner.
PS: for the 4K the paint will cost will add to the price of your 05 BUY an 06. Geee

she's a girl.

Nikki, if you want to paint your car to another colour, might as well go for a custom colour that no one else has. Because in any colour, if you want it to look absolutely perfect like it just came out of the factory, you would have to pull the entire engine bay out cuz...well...the lemans sunset (orange) just doesn't match any other colour. And once you open the hood, it would be VERY obvious that you just painted your exterior, which would kill your resale value.

As Bubble said, it could take 5K, but I think it would take slightly more if you want a factory-looking paint job.

Good luck.

Oh and I agree with the rest of them...wait for another Z in the colour you want.

what you can do is get the car and stick with it untill you can put some more money down and trade it in for a 06 and get color of choice. but really at first you may not like that color but it has grown on me in the last 5 months

if its a nonfactory color, than it really doesnt matter if you paint the bay(other than it looking good) because you wont fool anyone anyway.

another vote for get the color car you want to begin with.

Im guessing this is like an xmas present as a first car? cant imagine anyone buying a car with the intent to paint it because they couldnt find the color they wanted in this weeks paper.

You certainly don't want to do that! The minute you drive the car off the lot, it's worth several thousand dollars less, especially trade-in value. That would just be throwing money away.

Actually, the Lemans Sunset is one of the best looking colors (behind Daytona Blue ). If it's not something you can live with, then definitely have the dealer find you what you want. Keep in mind that they dealer would much rather sell you something that he already has on hand but if it's a choice between trading for another car or not selling you anything, chances are he'll be willing to trade for what you want.

A good paint job will be well north of 5 Gs; more like 8.

this is like buying a new car in automatic and wanting to swap to manual. Just get it the way you want the first time, or make do with what you've gotten.

My car is a SS and is currently at a body shop getting a 2-tone paitn job which i always wanted. I did ask for a quality 100% paint job of the entire car and yes its higehr than 6K or more. However i opted for a 2 tone paitn job for preferential reasons.

Its really all up to you but just make sure you get soemthign you want since if you get a car a color you dont want you will not enjoy it at its fullest.
