I hear 'ya. Nobody likes being made fun of. However, I think there is a difference between a clothes line spoiler and JDM tails. Also, there's definitely a difference between a civic and a Z.

Look at it this way. The people making fun of that civic were probably the same people who saw Fast and the Furious a few years ago and thought that was the coolest thing in the world. They ran out and all their friends bought all that ricey gear. Then, it became overdone and there was a backlash. Now it was TOO popular. It’s about the incorporation of a fringe idea into society. At first it’s scary, weird. What is that thing? Then society incorporates it. Everyone starts thinking it’s cool. Then everyone has one. Now it’s not cool anymore because it’s part of the culture. Part of mainstream society. It’s no longer fringe. Basic sociology here. To that point. I have yet to see a z in person with clear tails. That may just be me, but I haven’t.

On a larger issue. It’s about when you put things on a car piecemeal. I’ll explain. I hate, HATE lambo doors. I think if you want to look like rice that’s where you start. But I’ve seen cars where, together with the overall scheme, I’ve looked at the lambo doors and thought, “That fits. That’s a smooth looking car.” Clear tails and nothing else…that’s rice. Kinda like wearing a pirate hate out in public with street clothes. You’re gonna look like an idiot. But if Mr. Depp came walking down the street dressed as Captain Jack, you might laugh at first, but then you’d think, “Damn. That’s a great costume.”

Just my 2 cents. Can’t even buy a cup of coffee with it, but there it is. Oh, and by the way. Thanks for the very even-tempered discussion, folks. I’ve been on different car message boards for years now and it’s rare that discussions don’t get way out of hand where people start tossing names around and digress into kindergarteners. Great to see people who state their opinions maturely.
