Default Anyone else experienced hatch problems?

I wasn't sure where to post this, but figured since this is an exterior / body issue, this would work. If it needs to go somewhere else, mods, please relocate

My Z has developed a series of small dings / depressions along the very back of the hatch. It happened several months ago, I'm not exactly sure when, but the thing is, I'm sure that I never once dinged the hatch personally. There is a group of them to the left of the Nissan burger and also one or two on the right side of the hatch as well, and they are only on that part of the hatch. Has anyone else had this problem? What could possibly cause these dings to form? I am completely dumbfounded and frustrated, because now I'm going to have to pay someone to do paintless dent removal on my car, since every time I'm walking towards it, the dings drive me nuts!

That's really strange... I can't even guess how an OUTWARD ding could happen... either the metal must be kind of weak or something inside has to be moving around... I wonder if that's the case with my hatch as well...

I've got two depressions on the driver side (left top) of the hatch, no idea how they got there and they were'nt there when I got the car. There are no marks to indicate sometime hit it.

my guess is that when you have a rivot of some sort or a piece of metal under one, at first it will look nice until that will wear out the top piece of metal from closing your hatch. I have personally seen this on expensive snap-on tool boxes. When you shut the door on these all the time, as mechanics do, they will appear as little reverse dimples. maybe this is the case.

^Thats what I was thinking at first too but the hinge is farther inward than the "dimples"

If the metal is thin enough, you can put finger dents on the top of the hatch if you pull the hach down with your hand there or on the back of the hatch. But generally you would need to keep your hand on the hatch till it shuts and the fingers pressure would dent it. I got some on my Fiat 124 back in the early '70's.
