Default Nismo Spoiler

Hello everyone,

Just got my 2006 350Z enthusiast model... picking her up in 2 days! I want to a number of aftermarket parts but starting small and one piece at a time.. she's already costed me an arm and a leg to buy... Want to start off with a Nismo rear spoiler... I see a lot of imitations called.. "Nismo Style" rear spoilers out there... can anyone tell me the difference between the genuine Nismo rear spoiler and an "imitation" brand? Will I just be paying for the brand or is there much more involved? Such as fit, quality, durability, finish, etc...

Also, I understand there are 2 holes which need to be drilled.. I will be getting a bodyshop to do the install and painting.. is this soemthing that they can screw up and will there be scuff and scratches where the spoiler sits should it ever be taken off?

The other difference is that the genuine one you wil get fro the dealer is the US version of the wing... the wing tips are suspended above the hatch, whereas the replicas like VIS (get it at Performance Nissan) are the JDM version, where the wing tips rest on the hatch (looks MUCH better, IMO).

Having the pre-existing stock spoiler will help make it easier to line up the Nismo wing, as it uses the two outside holes from the stock spoiler, BUT, IMO this advantage does not outweight the disadvantages. The stock spoiler will leave two large holes in the center that can be very difficult to get the Nismo wing base to cover completely, especially if the base fitment isn't perfect. The stock spoiler can also leave paint blemishes from where it was that the new wing will not cover (I just had to deal with these issues myself).

As for the holes, there are ussually 6 or so total. Just have a shop do it or do it yourself if you're comfortable and don't worry about it; you'll never take the wing off the car. Just doesn't make sense to; it would cost much more to have the holes filled and hatch repainted that you would get for selling the wing, if you were thinking along the lines of returning the car to stock in the future to sell it. Only realistic option would be to get someone to trade hatches with you + some cash.

Default Do i need new gas shocks for the left and right stays?

2 additional questions:

1) Do all of the nismo or nismo style spoilers come with all the bolts, brackets, mounting hardware that is required for a bodyshop to install it?

2) Since this type of spoiler is heavier than a stock spoiler from nissan, will i need to replace the trunk gas springs or also known as the left and right stays... in order to support the added weight?

1. depends on the manufacture, every one is different
2. no, your stock shocks will be fine.

1. It should come with everything; it's just bolts (4 to secure the wing to the base and however many to secure the base to the car).

2. My stock ones seem fine, but others have needed the heavy duty lifters (Performance Nissan sells them; suckers are NOT cheap...). It also helps to remove the counter weight from the inside of the hatch. You'll see it when you remove the interior hatch trim; just unbolt it and toss it.
