Default anyone with a cf trunk lid???

hey guys i have a general question abou the cf trunk lid, i really want to do and put a on plexi glass as well. but i just worried about losing too much weight in my rear end, i mean think about it the weight balance is gonna be wayyyyy off. coz it will almost drop like 50-60 lbs off the rear, and the z is front heavy, well i was just wondering if u guys felt the rear being too light on the corners, if the handling was just off?>

There are several folks here w/carbon hatches, I seriously doubt you'll notice any adverse handling probs. The only prob. you may notice is slightly quicker acceleration.hehe.

Ideal thing to complement the CF hatch as far as weight balance goes is relocate your battery to the rear. Unless you track your car or are very attuned to it's handling characteristics, I doubt you'll really notice the diff., though.

Are you worried about the end swinging out daily driving?

50-60 pounds lighter? Anyone know how much does the stock hatch weigh?

From what I remember from another member on the site. The Seibon hatch loses roughly 10-12 lbs over stock, and the lexan rear window is around 30lbs. I know RickDogg has both of these items, maybe he will chime in.

If you want to offset the weight loss, replace your hood with CF and replace your battery with a lighter battery.. The only battery I've heard of is Braille, but I'm sure there's others out there. I'm looking to replace my hood, hatch and doors to lose some weight. Good luck..

That won't work, most CF hoods for Z's are actually heavier than stock mainly due to thier manufacturing. Even some CF fenders act in the same manner, just adding weight...

Reeally? I thought the main reason was to lower the weight, with looks a close second. Damn... Well, I guess there's always the battery..

The biggest weight savings from carbon fiber comes from the hatch/lexan combo and the doors.

the hood saved me like 7lbs, it wasnt much, i mainly got my hood for th vents. the doors r 1400. and thats just wayyyyy too much. even tho getting cf doors r ideal coz ur saving weight in the middle of the car......idk i can do my hatch and save like 50lbs but im jsut worried the *** of my car is gonna act funny. cos yes it is a daily driver but i always go up in the canyons and try to go to willow springs. i mean im really focused on handling. i like the fact i can hang with a m3 comp package right now, and i wanna handle a zo6 (c5). im worried that the loss of that much weight in the rear is gonna mess me up. i have nismo suspension and progress sways, and about to get gt spec underbrace. idk guys tell me what u think. i wanna handle soooo bad. and i want to lose weight....

You could use a motorcycle battery...you just had better never ever leave the power on for anything when the car is not on. BTW the battery is like 12lbs or something really low like that.

How do you guys in CA get lexan to pass state inspection? As far as I understand lexan is not DOT approved is it? I was about to do this same mod (CF hatch & lexan window), but unless I swap in my stock hatch every year before getting my car inspected (read major PITA) I was told that I was going to have problems if I went that route. Can anyone clarify that for me?

Thanks!
