03 PPW paint match problem
well, had my car repaired after I hit a Truck re-tread on the interstate 2 weeks ago. and the paint looks GREAT. the pearl/metallic flake looks great and matches the rest perfectly. BUT the white is too bright(compared to the rest of the car).
Normally i would think it was the painter's fault. but 1) i know the guy and his work(its awesome). 2) the PPW mudgaurds that come prepainted from the factory i had to buy match the new paint perfectly. and 3)the pearl looks great. better than i thought he could match up. 4) touchup paint from the dealership is the same bright white basecoat.
does the white *fade* or *dull* over the years? anyone else ever seen this if you got body work done or body kits
btw its a March 2003 PPW. he used dupont paint btw, used the vin to get the paint.
i drop it off in 2 weeks for him to blend it. but i was just curious to see if anyone else experienced this.

This happens on almost all of the PPW's. The reason is the tri-coat paint is severly hard to match, and the difference of that same paint on different materials. For some reason, on metal the paint looks darker than on plastic. I had my Nismo kit painted 3 times and it got a little better, but never came close to the paint color on the car.
Here is my kit. See if you can notice the paint difference......

The PPW paint is 3 parts, White (blueish white color with metallic flakes), Pearl (golden clear) and Clear.
If the there is not enough pearl the color will seem to bright and somewhat blue, to much and it will be to dark.

im dropping it off in a week and he is going to take it to dupont and get an exact match of the existing paint on the hood and blend it into the pieces he painted.
IF i can get money from the insurance company he is going to blend it up the car and fix some chips i have on the fenders and hood
I had the same problem with my DB Z Nismo Body kit.. I just learned to accept it... The only way you can really fix it is you get the entire car painted.. Then, and only then I know that my car will fully match.. I know its possible to color match perfect because Intense Power did it with one of the parts I ordered off them.. But I dont let the paint get to me anymore and accept the fact nothing is perfect..

Welcome to the world of white pearl!
I experienced it too many times with my PPW. First time I had my front bumper painted I waited three months and 7 tries for the shop to get it right. They finally blended in the whole front end in order for things to match up.
My Z is in the shop right now getting a full kit fitted. This time around I opted to have the whole car sanded and then re-painted (in Lamborghini 'Ballon White'
). It costs a lot but at least I won't have to feel bummed out every time I walk up to my car and see the mismatched color.
Since you are going to blend the paint in, it should come out looking as good as factory. But like others said, the same paint will look different on plastic versus metal so don't expect to see a perfect match.

I had my door repaired and I couldn't even tell it was repaired. They did a great job. White is a pita to match. Had problems all day long with my previous car.
Good luck
Good luck
Interlagos Fire is b1tch to match also. Requires black base coat, then pearl coat, then clear coat. Body shop that did my front bumper repainted the bumper 3 times to try and get the paint to match the rest of the car. The last of the 3 being the closest, but its still not perfect. Oh yeah, and since L40 is an '06 only color, it costs $400 a quart more, yay!
