Cool Overlays vs. Nite Shades

Hi guys. I'm pretty new to the forums and am looking to do some basics to my Z before i get into the hardcore work. Looking to smoke/black out the tail lights on my 2005 DB Roadster. I've read a lot of threads and heard a lot of positives and negatives for both overlays and using the Nite Shades. Could someone please help me out with this one, cause I really don't know where to go from here.

From what I understand, overlays do not last all that long, and can peel, warp etc. Nite Shades can bubble up if applied wrong. Could someone give me a final ruling on this one?

I am contacted quite often to spray tails that people have put overlays on and were not happy.

I put on overlays, but made the mistake of doing them when it was 40 degrees out...so when heating them up with a hairdryer, the "heated" air was probably only 80 or 90 degrees...thus i got some air bubbles. I imagine you'd have less problems in San Diego.

The advantages or overlays are they are relatively easier to apply (not as much prep), are easy to remove if you don't like them anymore, and offer a uniform tinting throughout the piece.

The advantages of night shades is that if prepped and applied correctly, you get a glossier look, although prepping and spraying takes a long time. You also have control over how much tint you want your lights to have (just spray more). They are reversible, although you would need to do a crap load of sanding, wet sanding and polishing to get your lights back to their original form.

There is an overlay application guide as a sticky on this site.

There is also a really good night shade application guide on 3 5 0 z - t e c h

Hope this helps

If put on properly you wont have any problems with the overlays. They are a little tricky to get them right but mine are flawless

I'm in NC and I haven't been able to successfully install overlays. The edges always come up so I take them off. (Don't want air getting under them and making them fly off)
