Need Help: Center Console Removal

This is a great "How To" on center console removal for the 6MT. I need to know what the first step would be for the 5AT. Would it be to remove the silver ring around the shifter? If so, how is this done?
I have been searching for some time and have come up empty. If anyone knows how the first step in this procedure works for the 5AT, please chime in.

There you can download the entire service manual for your car. It will tell you how to do ALL the things like this.
