Default Rear Hatch Supports

Should the stock rear hatch supports be able to support the Nismo spoiler on a non cf hatch? I have an 03 and they seem to be giving out, not sure if its just the supports wearing out (already?) or possibly i just need to get stronger ones than stock.

Also, i've noticed that the "heavy duty" rear hatch supports are actually cheaper than the stock hatch supports from nissan...any one else have any input on the hatch supports and where i should get them from?

Contact forum member jtabraham. I purchased hatch struts from him and they are excellent.

I have the OEM hatch and the Nismo spoiler and don't have any problems with them, but it's an 06... so maybe they are worn or maybe they might have changed parts .

This is generally a problem with the older Zs since hatch struts use compressed nitrogen which inevitably escapes over time, causing them to be weaker over the years. When you add a spoiler, it make the problem more evident, especially since the weight of the spoiler plus the extra moment force it's causing at that distance exceeds what that OEM struts can handle.

I'm glad you're happy with your new struts John!
