Default Did anyone buy the air bag off switch?

Well, I'm pregnant and you will all be glad to know that my Z isn't going anywhere. I looked in the manual and it said not to put a baby in the car until you have had an Air bag off switch installed. I was wondering if anyone had this done, how much it cost, and how dangerous is it if I don't have it installed!
Thanks,
Destiny

You'll probably get more response if you post this in the modifications section ... under interior/exterior/lighting section.

Not to be a smarta$$ but this portion of the quote should be observed by anyone with a question about thier cars operation, mantenance, troubleshooting, or general info. Open the manual and bingo! there it is!

back on track, I have not heard of anyone installing this feature. If it's a dealer option Nissan should be able to perform the service. Otherwise I would take it to a competent audio video custom shop (avoid big box stores like circut city or best buy as they will just look at you funny when you ask questions)

I had this done on my 2003 coupe (soon to be replaced by an 07 Roadster :-). It was about $1,000 and installed by the dealer. They put the on/off switch in one of the small rear compartments which requires your car key to turn. They add a large indicator light just above the interior lights. Actually i think it replaces one of them. You must get approval first NHTSA first. They have a special form.

Great excuse to trade in for a 2006.5 or 2007 as they have the passenger airbag cutoff sensor as standard equipment.

BTW, NEVER put a small child or infant in front of an airbag unless it is turned off. The force that the airbag inflates with can break their neck and kill them.

They do? Holy crap, does that allow for easier switch installation or what???? That might be reason enough for me to trade the 04 back in and get an 07.

Come now, how really reads the mod section? I wanted results and quickly! I'm pregnant, pregnant equals Impatient, hormonal, entitled to special treatment, free from scrutiny, and just dog tired! Not to mention the fact that I just don't give a darn anymore! So excuse me for putting my post on the main forum, it won't happen again! I didn't know I was going to get attacked by the post police. And now that I got that out I'm going to sleep.
By the way I just joking

LOL ... no problem. Just letting you know that when you make specific posts in the main forum you get a lot of misinformation.

According to two Nissan Dealerships, thus far, the switch is a pressure switch under the passenger seat for 2007's. According to your state's specificiations, the airbag should not deploy if someone under a certain weight requirement is up front with the seatbelt on. How much I trust this device with my child's life is so-so. I'm still doing more homework on this subject....

$1000 for a switch sounds pretty steep

When I researched it, it wasnt more than 4-500.

I didnt know about that info on the 07. Would definately have to research that, and what the weight is. I would guess, after car seat and the lil man, the weight wouldnt be more than 50 lbs.

No kidding! I call my local Nissan and they told me that it will be their first time installing the switch, and they don't know how long it will take them to install it and they would just have to charge me by the hour, but there needs to be some kind of cut off point because I refuse to pay a grand for them to install a $300 setup and for my Z to be their lab rat at that! I think the service manager and I need to have a chat about a solid price! I'm sick of these stealerships trying to do me in the butt!

This sounds just like the switch that is installed in my car. It was already installed when I bought it (got it used with about 10K miles on it). Never have used it, but it is nice knowing it is in there...
