Body damage repainted - paint doesnt match..
Help plz, got rear ended and got hit on the drivers side door couple of weeks ago. Got car back but the rear bumper seems to be a little darker than the sides. What are the chances of the color matching perfectly?

Take it back to the shop, and have them fix it. A good paint shop should have been able to match it. I had a Radium (champagne) colored Sentra a while back, and the shop said that was a difficult color to match, cause of the flex in it, which made the color shift, depending on the light conditions, but they matched it perfectly.
post some pics, it's very hard to get a perfect match.. I've used 3 shops in the past and got it near perfect on couple of occassions, but usually off by a bit.. you'll get used to it.
All I know is my rear bumper/hatch/fenders, or hood/front bumper/ fender, dont match under certain lighting conditions. I think its because its a PPW (really hard to match) and the body uses different materials. The funny part is..... I have never got it repainted, its the original paint lol.
yup, paint on different materials will look different, they have to put stuff so the paint flexes on plastic parts, my gas door looks really off... plus our paint isn't the easiest to match
that is very true, it is hard to get paint to match but when i repaint cars i take anther part form the car and get the paint shop to match the color so that theres a closer match.but i would tell you to go get the car detailed really good and it should help the way it looks.

hey...i have an 03 lemans....the stealership just called in their "paint guys" and they matched the color on the spot...better than when it was brand new! only bad part was, i got rear ended again 3 weeks later....now i know where to go and what to have them do
thanks for help guys, went to the bodyshop and looked at some 07's they had (bodyshop owns the dealership as well)
Nice guys, but i did notice the 07s were a little off as well on the fender/back bumper.
They are going to try again.
There is a guy in Nor cal (buddy uses him for his top secret wide body g35) that has some kind of laser machine that matches the paint exactly , anyone know this?
So i have to drop the car off again next week. hopefully this time will work better.
Thanks again guys for all the help.

the only way for a body shop other than the dealer to matchthe paint is finding a shop that uses SPECIFICALLY, PPG Brand paint--not dupont, not all the other brands, ONLY PPG will match 100% perfectly, never fails. If you cant find a shop, then find a paint dealer in the area that can mix PPG Brand for you andthen bring it to the body shop of your choice and have them use the paint that you bought elsewhere; that is honestly your only way if you want 100% match guarantee. other brands and REALLY skilled shops can get as close to maybe 90-93% close to match, but only PPG will land that 100% factory tone where you cant tell the car was ever hit or repainted

my dads painting my bumper this week and did a few test panels with dupont...seems alrite, but we may try a test with PPG...its for an 06 PPW.
any tips you can give about doing this type of paint job or maybe the specific paint code for the PPW..i know there are such things as alternates?

I was recommended PPG by a couple dealer-bodyshop references and applied the paint in typical fashion, no unorthodox methods of paint spraying or curing times. Sorry but this is a crock. Do you even know whats sprayed on factory, I can tell you its crap alesco or rock and maybe even some DNT here in japan. I use standox and even sikkens and I can match any color right out of the can. I havnt see a factory pack for a nissan in years so thats probobly out to.
It sounds like it was a pannle shoot and they either over poured the toners OR they have the wrong variant. Again depending on the color, spray tactics play a role in it to.
Some shops will 'blend' the bumper color into the rest of the car. They do it by spraying thin coats of paint over a small area between the darker bumper and the rest of the car and re-clearcoat it. The gradual change in color gives the illusion that it one color.
I've sprayed alot of Dupont as well as some PPG and I've never really had a problem with either of them. Factory paint will fade over time if you leave it out in the sun alot, so if you use the factory code on old paint, of course it will look "off." It also depends on what type of paint it is. I have an Eclipse that I sprayed with Dupont ChromaBase and went back and did some touch-ups on the bumper with some leftover Nason and it looked off, so that will also play a roll in it.
