Default Rear license plate screws

After searching the forum history, I found this isn't a totally new topic, but was wondering if anyone has been struggling with this lately.

I couldn't remove the bolts from the license plate fasteners on the rear bumper. The fastener has a nut attached to it, but the bolt that was screwed in (actually, it was a screw) didn't fit right, so it got stuck.

Anyway, I broke the fasteners and chopped the screws off with a bolt cutter. Then I installed some new bolts in backwards and used washers to prevent them from falling out. It works fine, but looks retarded and I'd much rather get the fasteners/retainers with the proper bolt that fits. Anyone know where I could get this?

Thank you all.

Licence plate frames come with bolts and dress-up caps. Like the one above.

Default same problem

i had the same problem about a month ago and i went to classic car shop. they are on shoemaker road right behind the falls road animal hospital. they gave me two new clips and the appropriate screws. pete is the owner and i recommend his shop highly. i cut the screw off and then went to pete to get the right fasteners.

oh wow, I thought I was the only person with this problem...

the dealer installed the wrong screw in the license plate, and I can't remove it

so, what is the recommended practice?

Default rear license plates screws are screwy

man...I thought my rear plate screws just happen to be weird. my 2004 had 2 different rears screws, one of the screws threads matched up with the cars, but the other one was practically forced in there. I'm guessing the dealer service guys are idiots and just put in any type of thread screw they can find. my solution was a trip to home depot where I brought in my one good screw and found the exact match. argh.
