you have the easier year. Even teh nissan dealer told me that. Nissan of apex where i live said that back in 03, they had to take off the **** for some tranny repair and had to rip up plenty of *****. Even their techs couldn't take them off right because the slightest damage, they would have to repair or replace. I guess this is the reason why they changed it on in later years.

i used a vise to get a good grip and a strong pair of plier for the shifter ****. Use a rag or something so that you don't damage the finish of the shifter. With plenty of upper body strength and a firm wrist, you shall overcome.

I have an 03 and it took a bit of force, but it came off with no issues. I used slightly different tools but nonetheless got it off flawlessly.

Why didn't Nissan just make a threaded end to the shifter, so you could just unscrew it? Every other car I've owned you could simply unscrew the ****.

I think that it is threaded... the loctite seems to be the problem when trying to unscrew it off...

Anyway, I hope to have better luck. I am about to change my shift **** and boot!!

the dealers were losing too many shift ***** if the **** comes off too easily from their new cars just by unscrewing. i think that is the reason why they applied loctite in the first place.

Im doing my 07 this weekend. We'll see. I hear that if you park under the sun, it facilitates the whole process.

Here my personal experience. Park under the sun for an hour (30mins if your in cali) . Stick fingers south of shift boot under the shift console. Pull up. I use vice pliers. I clamped shifter under foam. Then wrapped towel over oem shift ****. Grabbed my plumber wrench ( although I would recommend something smaller) secure tight over **** and turn counter clock wise. Kinda effortless..maybe it was the huge plumbers wrench. Hope this helps!

Now i got my nismo titanium **** installed...and it only cost me $90 brand new, thanks to George over at Gardena Nissan. Horrible service dept. but got their last ****, for a great deal.
