Default Gutting my car

Does anyone know how much weight is saved by taking out all the carpet and plastic in the car? Especially in the back.

Also if I take out all the speakers and get rid of that ENTIRE thing behind the seats, does that saved at least 50 pounds?

Thanks!

Not sure, but if you remove the seats, steering wheel, windshield, and hatch glass, you will really bring the weight down. Also, removing the engine would really kick *** on weight savings.

Okay, don't get your undies in a bunch, I'm just kidding you. To answer your question, I have no idea.

the speakers don't weigh much at all.... the magnets on those things are tiny... but if you're going to take out the speakers you might as well take out the head unit... my only gripe with that is you lose your clock.

I would be guessing considering I haven't weighed most of the stuff I've taken out... but i doubt you will lose 50lbs from just carpet, speakers, that rear plastic section and all of the rear interior.... (assuming you've already ditched the spare)....

+1 the carpet / speaker stuff barely saves u anything. taking out your stock seats and replacing them with some bucket seats would be a great start.

Carbon Fiber Doors

Don't really care about the structural integrity as I'll be eventually building a cage.

but putting a cage in will prob eliminate any weight savings from doing cf on the roof. unless you were planning on putting a cage in anyways.

Not expensive if you know how to mold dry carbon yourself. I've seen a carbon roof being done before too. (not on a z thought. The roof is aluminum anyway, your really not gonna save all that much, you can just cut off some supports on it instead from having a rollcage.)

Edit: wow didn't think this thread was so old, it was the first one to come up when I searched because I want to gut my car. oops
