Default Best place to get some paint for chrome silver.

Well Im about to go down that road AGAIN! This CS is killing me! Im a painter and just cant match this color! When I pull the code for PPG it seems that the color is all wrong. Ive tried to adjust it but it just gets worse. I finally gave up and took it to a friends shop. He couldnt match it! Whats the deal with this paint code! Has anyone had a good match without a blend???

I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere to use Dupont paint, because it matched better. Not sure on that though, I'll see if I can find something out.

Or, since you paint just do the whole car.

try matching silverstone...impossible! There is no out of the bottle match that works for either color...it's going to be a blend, with quite a bit of time put in to make it perfect.

I finally gave up and painted the whole damn car!

I know but man! Do you know how much work it is to paint a full car!! The right way!!! I think Im going to try and get Dupont. I ordered a lip kit so I can blend the front and rear bumper. BUT I dont want to do the fenders and quarters!

I had the same problem years ago when I had to repaint my rear bumper. It took them several tries to get a "close-enough match". Now whenever I need to paint some parts, I only go to that shop. Good luck with your search!

a quality painter will know how to tint to match paint. blending panels is not the proper way to go about it. manufacturer's paint codes are just a starting point. You need to account for the coats of clear as well.

My suggestion is to find a seasoned vet painter and have them help tint for you. Spray test panels until you have a match

Well I dont work for a paint shop anymore so I dont have toners in front of me to pull and adjust. BUT when I did work at one I saw a lot of colors that just wouldnt hit. This was from those so called vet painters. Ive seen about 20 panels sprayed out and still not match. With Chrome silver Ive seen it sent out to be matched under the computer eye and still not hit. You do know that insurance companies allow for a blend because of this reason right?
The problem is if you find someone to match your color close enough then you have to worry about how they paint. Silver is a had color to shoot. I have high standards when is comes time to shoot something and for that reason alone is why I want to do the work.

exactly true....which is why I gave up and spent the last 4 weeks painting my car in full. Not a fun project all together (I'll explain when I post pics hopefully this week), but in the end, I know it was done correctly, and I know it all matches

Wow, I wouldn't have thought the CS (KYO) would be hard to match at all. I've had numerous body kit parts painted all at different times and some of them at different shops and they are all spot-on. They just got the code, looked up any variants, then matched a swatch to the car and that was it. I just left the parts to be painted, not the whole car, and they all matched up perfect when I installed them.

One mans perfect is another mans not so perfect. Its a very hard color to match. As a painter I see a TON of cars that dont match. With friends Ill point it out and sometimes they still cant see it.

true, silver is about the hardest to match. seeing as it is mostly all metal flake. most of the newer car paints are hard to match with the amounts of pearl and metal flake being used.
was gunna tell ya to look up the variants, but sounds like you are already past that, lol. good luck!

Default Painting with Nissan Silver Chrome - KYO

Never have had any match issues issues with the KYO - chrome silver base matching , even in a spray can from auto body and paint shop, also just had my veilside v3 hood and front clip of car painted and color matched into the fenders with absolutely no issues ...useing the dupont chrome base .the guy that just painted my hood, did say something about 17 color combinations , thought he was just trying to justify the cost ? .. painted mirrors, ect, in the past, with no match issues ..

Thats called a blend. Its where the paint is off a little and you blend into the next panel so you wont see the color being off.
