I think the grill is part of the bumper and can't be removed. I could be wrong, maybe ask the people in here who has an after market grill cover installed.

No - it's part of the bumper. Why do you want to remove the grille and then replace it ?

Hate to repeat it, but it is all one piece, grill/bumper.

I think that might look good too but you will be without a bumper and I would not advize you drive around without one 'coz you wil have a lot of sh*t flying into the front of the car - radiator, air intake etc. - unprotected AND, if you did have a front end hit (God forbid) you would loose all the power of the bumper. Not good.

By the way - I like those "cheezy mesh inport grilles" as you call them !

Alright, so was under the impression that the bumper was under the bumper cover, the bumper cover being the painted part with the grille. I not driving to far so i'm not worried about the stones vs radiator. And just think, if i did get in an accident, wouldn't need a bumpercover By the way, you z looks good with the mesh grille, just don't think it would look good on mine.

Just looking out for our fellow Z owners. Make sure you post some pics of the car once you've had your grille painted - I haven't seen that done yet but think it'll be cool. Good luck.
